Yes all the time
I’ve heard mixed things but it felt like it was accepted on the DL
It typically ends up adding up to 40 hours for me. It depends on how you travel. If I fly in on Monday and come back Friday, those two days may be 6 hr day for me and the Tuesday - Thursday on client site, we typically work long hours so the week could look like this: 6, 9.5, 9.5, 9, and 6. I also work on the plane. It gets even tougher as you progress, cuz you will have to start squeezing in the internal initiatives stuff. It can be a exhausting but unfortunately, this is consulting.
Interesting… thanks for your input
What M1 said. Back when we traveled almost every week, I usually had the longest commute on the team, by a lot. I live in one corner of the country, not close to a major airport, and had a long string of projects in the other corner.
And I still had crazy high utilization. I worked long hours at the client site during the week, and did at least some work in the airport/on the plane on travel days. I wasn’t religious about it — if I’d been up at 3:30 for a flight and wanted to sleep for the first hour, or hit a good stopping point at the start of the return trip and wanted to watch a movie, I did — but I had a routine that worked for me. It’s not a 9 to 5, strict 40 hour a week job, which is why we don’t get 9 to 5, strict 40 hour a week pay.
Thank you for the response back! That definitely makes sense and how it seems to be for me during busier times but I may not mind if it’s engaging work and I have less busier seasons. The trade offs and your balance are definitely noteworthy things to consider.
