Hi.. I applied for an opportunity in UBS which I saw in Linkedin around 10-12 days back and I did receive a kind of automated email for online assessment. I took the assessment but post that I didn't hear anything. I see that job in linkedin is still accepting applications.

What shall I conclude from this? Is my profile not shortlisted for interview or they usually took many applications and then decide who shall be called for interview?
What is the approach?

Hi y’all! Hope this is the right bowl to post this question and get advice. I am dealing with an employer that preaches our values. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently. Example 1: My manager has told specialists (resourcers) that she will pay them under the table in order for her (manager) to get full credit vs splitfor the placement and therefore (barely) hit her target for the quarter.

Is it unrealistic to keep seeing someone hoping that they fall for you?

So I've been seeing a girl for 4 months now - I've had strong feelings for her for a while, but knew she needed some more time.

Yestersay, she said she likes me and has said that noone has treated her this well, but she is struggling to fall in love with me. She has been thrown by fancy dates and parties so we have agreed to spend more quality time together and see what happens. I'm worried I am being naive though...

I just got diagnosed with ADHD at 30. After years of being the weird one, problem child and dealing with my own mental and sensory overload issues I’m so relieved to have a diagnose I could cry. I am now getting recommendations to avoid medication and try therapy. Can anyone speak to that approach? I kind of feel like I’m getting that recommendation because people don’t believe ADHD is a real issue.

I have a portfolio review coming up next week. The situation is a bit different than what I’m used to - I didn’t apply, the hiring manager reached out because my background is very applicable to the role. I told them I haven’t updated my portfolio recently and they said that’s fine, that they don’t need anything fancy. Verbatim what they said via email is attached. I am very interested in the opportunity, so I‘d like to impress them. Should I put together a deck to show a more recent case study?

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Have any M&A associates (a) gone in house and re-tooled to a more commercial counsel role and (b) found that the hours are actually better in their new role (ie little to no night and weekend work)? Considering a move in house but get concerned that I’d be dealing with the same hours for less pay.

I’ve been at a company I love for almost 2 years. I have great rapport with my boss and we work amazingly together and they’re probably the best boss I’ve ever had. I recently moved and the dust has finally started settling after a couple months. My boss sent me negative feedback on an assignment (there was misunderstanding on my part) and that while they understand I’ve moved, they need more of my focus generally. Fair, but stings and I feel nervous about my job because of this feedback. Contd.

I never worked in in big law. I just got an offer from a FAANG company that is honestly more money than I ever thought I’d make. It would be great to pay back student loans and have some financial freedom. I’m really unsure on the role and the team. I don’t know if it’s the best fit. I’m feeling very confused and conflicted. Would love any advice y’all have to give

As compared to law firm life (transactional), is in-house actually a better fit for work/life balance? I’ve worked with in-house counsel attorneys working 70+ hour weeks on deals, but I’m curious as people seem to generally say the balance is better.

In house counsel in big tech. 14 YOE. Junior manager of a small team. I've been advising senior leadership for some time and find myself more interested in business strategy than legal (or beyond legal). I also want to better understand organizational systems. I've seen continuing education business courses or legal leadership programs, but I'm wondering if an executive mba would be better. Time and cost are considerations. Anyone have experience here or programs you'd recommend? Am I crazy?

Is it ever "too late" to go in-house? I was Biglaw at a top firm for over 10 years, and when partnership was not an option, went looking for the next gig during 2020, which was an odd time. Landed at start of 2021 at a litigation boutique doing pretty top flight work, but still would like to ditch the firm billable rat race. I do have have in-house experience on my resume via a client secondment.

Super frustrated.

In-house at a small/mid size company whose General Counsel very, very BigLaw firm for all needs. Basically, I decide what goes to BigLaw and they hold my hand when I need it.

The issue, is that we are not an important client (nor should we be, tbh) but I have been instructed that I am restricted to this firm for all needs because of a family tie. The problem is they SUCK for what we do and need and $$$$$$$....

Any suggestions? We've got to get away from this big law firm..

Interviewing for L&E in house position for lateral move. Posting also says I would be advising on IP and M&A. I have experience in the 10 other or so areas they want that are all employment related. I don’t know if they’re holding out for a unicorn candidate, or I am missing something. I don’t know any L&E attys who have IP or M&A experience. Is there an employment law component to these practice areas? And do I just say I have zero experience? The position is a solid fit for me otherwise.

New lawyer and need to know if this is standard/help interpreting some language from opp side: “Sub’s obligations of indemnification and defense shall be only to the extent of the negligence or willful misconduct of Sub or Sub’s lower tier subs. Sub shall have no obligation to indemnify or defend Contractor or the Owner from their own negligence or willful misconduct.” Is this standard?
