Do you say Strategy& as “strategy and”? Lol

Yes, it is “Strategy and”. It signifies that Booz’ vision of strategy consulting always involved more - execution, digital, organization, etc. which was very in sync with the “practical strategy” and “strategy that works” tags. It also drew on the long heritage of Booz’s magazine “Strategy & Business”. And was aligned with merger rationale of combining Booz strategists with PwC execution capabilities. Given they needed a new name, and all new names are very badly received, I think this one is actually quite good. It sure beats “Monday”.

The story is that PWC had a hard time finding a name that didn’t violate copyright/trademark laws in the multitude of markets that they compete in. So they picked something unusual to avoid issues. The branding was initially supposed to be Strategy& PwC, which at least has some sense to it. Later some PwC folks decided that the PwC name had to go first for branding. Which left the S& kind of hanging. I’m not defending the name, but that’s the backstory as I understand it.

Largely what I was told but also that there were Booz leaders that were quite tied to the & so they liked this name

I’d have changed it to “Zoob”. Just as meaningless, but a much greater connection to Booz than the hanging &

I just really want to smack the person who agreed that the Booz name couldn’t be kept in a change of control scenario fully knowing how likely that would be for a mid sized consulting business separating from its parent in ‘08. Also remind me not to ever hire their legal counsel.

Just a quick reminder not to ever hire their legal counsel, as per your request.
