Do you shave off time on your hours if you’re crying while working on a task?

No, you double it. Crying tax.

likefunny

Hell no.

Client makes you cry, they pay for it.

If I’m crying over a client’s matter you best believe I’m billing for that time. “Processed client matter and engaged in internal preparation for next steps;”

likefunny

I mean, you're thinking about the case while you cry, so it's perfectly cromulent and ethical to bill it full rate.

likesmart

Fortunately my crying sessions don't usually take more than 6 min so I roll it in!

like

As my partner has drilled into me “never cut your own billing.”

likehelpful

Do not cut your bills. If you are crying then you need a change.

like

Nope

like

If you don’t cut the crying time, then you’d have to lie in the description as to what you’re billing for. Also, crying time is not working time. It’s like billing for restroom breaks.

@A7, did anyone actually teach you what it means to ethically bill for a 6 minute increment? If no, definitely recommend reaching out to a senior associate or superior at your firm

like

Never.

I feel so far behind all of my non-lawyer friends. Everyone is getting married, having babies, and buying houses, and all I have is esq behind my name... I feel like my career is my marriage and my baby, and my student loans are my house payment... anyone else feel that way? Also, if anyone used to feel that way but dug themselves out of that whole, any advice?

So I have this really strange satiation. I was asked to review a service agreement, and some attachments, governing website design and hosting client is buying. Literally 25 pages of the most ambiguous, inconsistent, supplier friendly thing I have ever read. Supplier insists using its documents (starting from scratch would have been Faster). The total deal is only $5,000 (which is an insanely good deal) but the time to fix these documents is going to exceed that. How would you deal with this?
