Absolutely. I consider it part of my job. And for things like this it’s impossible to find the time, so you have to make the time.

great thinking. do you mentor individually or through orgs?

I have a new mentee every quarter. I love it. I learn as much from them as they do from me. I do a Friday hour zoom call every other week. It works.

how fantastic. is it organized through work, an organization or on your own?

I mentor in 3 local tech accelerators so I’m mentoring at least one C-suite in early stage startups throughout the year. Some I keep mentoring after they leave the accelerator. I also mentor a few mid level technical leaders in the area. We set up a monthly time, I fit it into my schedule. My employer knows i do it. I learn as much from their challenges as they do talking with me about them.

pardon the rant. im filing with my current tax person this year but am having a really unpleasant experience. i have switched to a partner/k1 status which is exciting but need help and education. instead of offering guidance the person i am getting comments about how high my income in a slightly aggressive way. i would love to work with a person or company that isn’t making me uncomfortable about my income. has anyone else experienced this? would also love tax recos if anyone has someone in NY.

I’m looking for advice. I’m with a company that will be going through an exit soon-ish. It’ll be big. I have a fair amount of equity and I’m fully vested. I know there could be a bonus at the time of the transaction or benefits of staying after the transaction, but I am not doing my best work and I want to be motivated and inspired again. Cont’d:

I am a partner in Canada and have been offered a role in USA with a bigger buss unit but a level down in the org chart. I can live anywhere in USA and part time in Canada. My boyfriend can move to USA with me but my daughter is in west coast who is 20. Since Covid I have spent more time with her. I have worked a lot with American partners but not clients. Thoughts on how I would be received as a leader being a Canadian woman in USA. About 2000 people in BU.

I became a mom and four months down, head of new business (guy) in my company and the HR (lady) interviewed me for an exec leadership role. Obviously I was excited for the interview but…. the interview went well with the guy and I felt the role was made for me. However, the lady kept bringing back the topic that ‘I am a mom and need to focus on my family’ again and again and again. Honestly it was unnerving. The feedback I received from HR (lady) was we felt you won’t be able <cont. in comments>

I felt so confident in applying. The recruiter called a week later and said the hiring manager was extremely impressed with my resume. The first “interview” (informal meet and greet) went great and I was told I’m definitely moving on to the formal panel interview. I reached out to the recruiter with a happy “just following up” email on Friday afternoon and she said the coordinator should be in touch by Monday at the latest. No email came. Talk me off ledge. Confidence plummeting.

Seeing some men get more leadership face time and more options to participate in meaningful activities with sr leadership. It’s a sure way to prepare them for more sr roles. I also heard that some leaders view me as a great No. 2 (operational partner) have you had this happen? How did you change that perception. I’ve started asking for this it now. Let’s see how it goes.
