Male in my 40s. A forward-thinking progressive. I’ve disliked Bloomberg since late 2001, when he ran against Mark Greene. Since before it was cool, hah. Throughout the years I’ve had light debates around the office about him. I’d often lose. New Yorkers aren’t as liberal as people would assume. I’d say New Yorkers are barely left of center. The topic a while back about Amazon using taxpayer funds & breaks for a L.I.C. campus was an excellent litmus test. I argued that they didn’t need any money from us, they would come anyway. I lost those debates. Then... I finally got vindication. The Amazon deal fell through, and then a year later Amazon announced they are planning to build in NY, this time without any breaks. I was right. I kept the gloating to a minimum.
This morning, the reviews on Bloomberg are everywhere. After nearly two decades of disliking Bloomberg, I finally feel some vindication. You bet I’m gonna talk about it! I will try not to gloat too hard 😉.
I do try to keep it light, though. Like friendly jokes between friends. If I feel a discussion is getting a bit too deep, I just nod and say OK, smile, and let it fizzle with a friendly joke at the end. I have work to do, after all.
Not really. My art director is a republican (but not a trump fan) and I’m a pretty liberal democrat so we pretty much avoid the subject. I don’t really talk with other people either, other than the occasional “I can’t believe what that sociopath did this time” commentary. I’m female, 50+
I used Psychology Today, it cites a PhD psychologist from Johns Hopkins saying that he thinks Trump has malignant narcissism.
Still, in the article even the experts don’t agree on what Trump has, because they would have to technically sit him down and do a full evaluation in a controlled setting to really know. I just always heard that sociopath meant something far more severe than what has been creeping into daily casual usage. But I could be wrong, I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist.
But you don’t need to have a PhD to know that Trump is definitely crazy.

50, Male Democrat NYC. Finally learning to leave it alone at work. But it’s hard. And I definitely have a hiring bias, which sucks but there it is.

The former, which can lead to the latter.
I have a guy who used to work for me who I’ve passed over working with again because his politics trouble me and I don’t want to be associated with it.
I also have a former CEO who loves me and I’ve used for recommendations. I think the reason he loves me is because he accidentally thinks I align with his politics and I’ve never corrected him.
Mainly people are liberal and want to get rid of the shit-stain-in-Chief. But where there is friction is how best to do that. Whether or not to send a socialist or a centrist is the deciding line.
There are many Republicans who are disgusted by Trump, and fear for the country.
And there are Republicans who were disgusted by him, who now would 100% vote for him no matter what he says or does.
Keep in mind, our job is to persuade people who are not necessarily like us. So it’s good to know how people perceive things.
Chicago is pretty much openly Trump hate in the office. It can make it a hostile work environment to discuss politics. I’ve had to censor others when on shoots with clients. No matter how much you hate Trump, you probably shouldn’t say things that would get you locked up.
As you learn, a lot of conservative consumer facing brands are run by liberals, and a lot of liberal brands are run by die hard conservatives.
I’m a registered Democrat, Male, 40.
I’m fairly liberal. Generally speaking, the ad business is also fairly liberal — it’s one reason I like working at ad agencies. However, years ago I did s short stint at Ogilvy and it felt like I’d walked into a Republican clubhouse. And it felt uncomfortable — I didn’t know who to trust.
