I have tried to pinpoint what I am feeling or not feeling at work. I have come to think that the JOY is somewhat lacking with everything that is going on. I still love my job and the interactions with the students, but all the sickness, fear, and death that has happened over the past 2 years has taken a toll.

I am still teaching remotely and very worried about returning to school. My students are young students with autism and masks and distancing are not possible.

What are some strategies that can be implemented with a 4th grade student who’s on a 1.4-2.4reading level, according to the STAR test. This student just transferred in and he is very well spoken, has a large vocabulary(uses words that typical 4th grade students may not), and has a great creative imagination. His goals include reading fluency and written expression. He cannot spell nor read basic sight words without help. Sometimes, it seems as if he is waiting for me to read before he tries.

I use to enjoy pulling together lessons using a variety of resources, and not using textbooks or ready made curriculum. I just used the standards. These days, I’m finding that my online students find a set curriculum easier to navigate. I’m finding it easier to keep organized online. Anyone else having a similar experience?

How do you all schedule IEPs with parents ? Do you figure out what days you/admin/ subs are holding them, then send out the “time” you expect parents to show, or do you contact them and ask what days/ time blocks work for them?
At times,I feel it’s rude to just tell them a time, but some parents get so entitled-don’t want to use THEIR sick/vacay time to attend during school hours. SoTired of overtime as a SPED writing/holding ieps after contract hours though.What works best for you all?

I am ready to go back. Distance learning is not effective for my students and I don't feel like I am doing the best I can. I am ready to drive to their homes so I can do in person teaching if the families allowed it. Anyone else feeling this? I teach students with profound disabilities.

I have been teaching students with special needs for 21 years now. The class size used to be 12:1. Now it’s 15:1, but you can have up to 18 students with the variance. Now my Principal said that you can have up to 19 students!!!! Is anyone else noticing that the self contained class is getting larger?

Hi. I am a Transition teacher in California. I would like to know what is the ratio of students to staff for community outings in your districts? I have been teaching in my district for 20+ years and it has always been 4:1 ratio for our moderate/severe transition classes. Now our director is saying it's 6:1 and I don't feel like this is safe for our students.
