Do you think after this is over companies might be more flexible to WFH arrangements? It’s the new normal

If they are smart, absolutely yes! If they are dumb and have a fleeting memory, and forget the lessons history and nature have taught us, they will over-pivot and get worse than before the crisis. So it rests on all of us and organization leaders to apply the lessons we have learned to place greater importance on WFH as a very legitimate mode of working for all of us, not just a sliver of us - to supplement or augment, but not replace working in offices. Most people should be able to have a degree of “WFH”. And worse yet, stop maligning remote workers and making them feel less normal than those that “show up” in a building or travel every week to be in an often windowless, ill-ventilated, sometimes depressing room. [note: I have exaggerated some to make the point]

Yeah I was thinking about this. It’s a perfect test case for many businesses and projects. So yeah I think I could see some companies see the benefit and start doing away with more office space. I think it forces people/older generations to learn how to manage a team with WFH. So those people who were always against it might see the light. Hopefully WFH becomes more optional in the future.

They will over pivot to make up for lost time.

It’s been a grueling 18 months, for everyone. There’s a unique story I’d like to share and it’s my own but I have to believe it’s not only mine. I was privileged enough to be able to WFH during the pandemic and change jobs to a fully remote job during this time. The isolation has become so complete, with the lack of connection and professional rapport or daily respect/clarity thru slack convos and sporadic zoom - I’m at an all time mental low barely able to start this Monday morning.

I have a salary range in mind for a new role based on online research and target increase from my comp now. But my research shows the data points are for salaries in HCOL areas. In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). Thoughts?

Hi all, I would appreciate your thoughts - I’ve been really struggling to adjust to long-term WFH and just have been extremely unhappy with it (feelings of isolation, burnout, hopelessness). I realize I’m not spending time on commute and such, not wearing uncomfortable clothes, but I’m still really miserable. I feel like most of my daily joy used to come from live interaction with people. I know many of y’all are really thriving on WFH and need your help / thoughts on how best to adjust. TIA!!

Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls

This is such a basic question, but what’s the best way to give my two weeks and not have things be completely awkward at work?
