Regulated reformed capitalism is what most of the left wants but the right calls it socialism.
Full on socialism doesn't exist currently in the world. Most models that approach it like the nordic model are pretty much hybrids of a capitalist system with a strong safety net or with strong protections for human rights.
Thanks for that response - you’re right, we can’t associate socialism to bad. We have to assess the policies and their impact

What the "Left" wants is pretty much what the EU has, which is a strong safety net, strong representation and a strong economy. Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada also have this. Capitalism meets Socialism if you will.
And before the rebuttals come through, consider this: Europe and the US are geographically about the same size. Their government structures are similar. Their economies are roughly the same size, but the EU has over 110M more people and they still are able to have universal healthcare, education, at least 6 weeks vacation, incredible public transportation, and solid economic growth. The "left" wants to use this proven model, implement it, and build upon it, which is how Europe approached their restructuring after WW2, using the US as a template.
What the "Right" wants is really control/dominance capitalism, which is the position the US held post WW2 by default, since our nation wasn't bombed to hell and we pretty much control an entire untouched continent. Their approach to Capitalism is minimalist, and their approach to economics is likened to that as a law of physics and the second amendment. Free market/enterprise should roam free and not be infringed, which works as long as there is still room to roam. The belief is that the residual effect of this bounty is strong social structures reinforced/facilitated by means, where everyone gets a fair share. The problem is that assumption is proving to be false and the lack of checks and balances in the market is actually killing off competition and innovation, leaving a bunch of elephants, and an environment only catering to them, meaning the residual benefits we used to enjoy is diminished.

I actually like/agree with your description up til "the problem"
Thanks!

Keep capitalism, just stop with corporate bailouts. Capitalism has made us the richest nation in history. Adopting socialism would be a disaster.

Capitalism is fine. Problem is that government has been getting in the way and helping large corporations, in the name of helping the poor. Ie. Corporatism. Ex bailing out banks. Should've let them fail.
The only place I’d disagree with there is small businesses that literally just started prior to covid , find it a little unfair for the money invested and then boom PANDEMIC
Socialism fails. Capitalism isn’t great but there isn’t a better alternative. And before you claim “what about Nordic countries”, they are largely capitalist and also rely heavily on state oil money to prop up their social welfare programs.
OPEC is based on the Texas Railroad Commission, read your history folks
Another question for you great folks ! Would you consider Biden a socialist?

It's moreso an irrelevant question -- he's not 'For' anything. He's an empty vessel with no opinions of his own besides being Not Trump.
I believe in a system that allows anyone to succeed (equality of opportunity,) I do not believe in a system of equal outcome (equality of outcome.) Some one become a billionaire? great! I think our big problem is we need to align on what equals “opportunity” I think it’s a lot more than the right wants today and it’s a lot less than the left dreams about for tomorrow.
I think with all this talk about “right” and “left” we are losing sight of the fact that most of us in our hearts want the same things as far as opportunity.
Capitalism is the best system but we’ve become more of a corporate oligarchy. I support stronger anti-trust laws, more oversight on big mergers especially in tech and telecom and reducing barriers to entry for small businesses not the expansion of the welfare state.
Except it not in your class, industry, or personal interest for that to happen. Not really in mine either. So the wheel spins again for regulatory capture and use of government to raise barriers of entry.
What type of system do people commenting consider the nordics/Northern Europe (Germany/the Netherlands) to be based on?
It's capitalism, just with a safety net (free health care and housing if needed). Doesn't stop people from working hard, because believe me, you don't want to be considered a hartz4 person
