While I don’t think it’s necessarily an HR thing- women not supporting women is more fact than fiction. There’s studies that say women give harsher marks on female direct reports than their male ones and from first hand experience I sometimes feel bad for the other junior women getting the Devil Wears Prada treatment.

The population of New York is 51% women 49% men. Recruiters are 95% women, 5% men. The C-Suite is 5% women, 95% men. “Gender equality” means the numbers should reflect the population ACROSS THE BOARD. This means 51/49 in recruiting, as well as 51/49 in the C-Suite. “Gender equality” doesn’t mean “Hey lets just shove all the men into IT and building services, and make all other roles all women.” Why should the gender be equal in recruiting? Think about it, really hard. The goal of gender equality will be more obvious when you see the reality of it within the ranks of people doing the hiring. This is also why it’s important to have a range of ethnicities within hiring, as well. The purpose of diversifying the hiring department is to practice what you preach. If you can’t even diversify your hiring department, how on earth can you diversify more complex departments?

Not sure what the ratios you’ve outlined indicate. Are you suggesting that there should be more men in those roles? Every recruiter or HR person I’ve ever dealt with has been female .

Our company HR head is a man. They still exist. And he is completely sexist. It is shocking the things he says. . Hires only women who he treats horrendously and who never last a year under him.

I think companies should hire HR people with a soul. Never met an HR person in my career who had one. I have survived my career staying the hell away from HR.

Long story short - my nanny has many conservative values - mom shaming breastfeeding in public, gender specific roles, considering boys better than girls etc. it never bothered me before and I have learned to co exist with her however now my toddler is speaking and understanding more I am worried about him being influenced by her. Further she also has comments against my SO being too involved parent & calling out son as cutie, hugging toddler etc as he is a boy. Contd..

I have been invited to a company diversity program. After reviewing the materials, I believe this will be more divisive and unhelpful than it will be constructive. I would like to not attend. Has anyone been successful in having this type of conversation with their manager? And because it seems to matter these days, I’ll just throw out there that I am not a cis white man 😂

Looks like the firm “supporters” are inaccurately “reporting” posts that demonstrate a diversity of thought (i.e., share any perspective that is negative from theirs). Shame on you for doing that and stopping staff from sharing their perspectives in 3rd party open forum that is not officially affiliated with CV in any way. This bowl isn’t meant to be a place to toot your own horn, CV. It appears to give a voice to staff in a safe place. See posts for a few that have been recently reported.

I worked for a white male partner for months during my first year who was very abusive. At first I thought he was just a tough partner to work for but later found out that he treats his white associates very differently than he treated me. And looking back I realized that his low expectations, constant verbal abuse, and over all attitude towards me were very much grounded in my race and gender. My in-laws think any woman or black person in a leadership position is there because of diversity and that companies shouldn’t try to put any effort into promoting diversity in their recruitment because it harms minorities as people will always think those minorities are in a position of power only because they were hired because of gender/race quotas. They also think it’s perfectly justified in prioritizing hiring a woman over a man (all else being equal) because of potential for ‘me too’. 😣

SM asked me to “fix the gender ratio” on a pursuit deck where I had a team of 3 men and 5 women. Guarantee if it had been 6 men and 2 women he wouldn’t have batted an eye 🙄
