This. It’s just infatuation. There can be perceptions through an online persona and then the person can/will be entirely different when they have an actual relationship.

It truly depends. Have they spoken on the phone? FaceTime? Zoom call??? During the pandemic, a lot of people met and carried on relationships virtually and built a strong bond. So falling in love with someone you haven’t met in person can happen.
That’s sweet! Honestly, I’ve seen many couples meet online during the pandemic and grow a relationship via FaceTime and Zoom. Just by talking and getting to know each other. In some ways, it worked because it cut out the complexities that sex can bring. So yes, it is possible to fall in love with someone you haven’t met in-person physically. Because you’ve connected with them emotionally

It’s possible. I have fallen deeply for someone who I meet remotely. It’s a little weird, but I enjoyed the art of getting to know someone; rather than building a sexual connection first.
Also, both people have to be willing to put in the effort to make the connection work. Otherwise, it can feel similar to having a pen pal. We don’t need that!

Concerned a friend found love or is just being judgmental by thinking it’s weird?
According to other comments, they FaceTime.
This isn’t negatively impacting the friend’s life
