Maybe I need to start. I used to work with a woman who was a partner in a prior firm. She needed assistance with a corporate matter and I volunteered to help. I walked into her office. She had two chairs opposite her chair at the desk. One chair was covered with paper; the other had on it a Minnie Mouse doll. Thinking nothing of the doll, and wanting to sit for our discussion, I reached out, grabbed the doll and began to move it so I could sit. The woman partner shrieked: “What the f*** are you doing? You moved Minnie!” She insisted that I replace the doll in the chair and stand while I spoke to her. The only difference between this partner and a clown would be a red wig and the red foam nose.
But no one added a story. Maybe it’s just that I’m the only one who has been working in a clown-rich environment.

Funniest thing I've ever heard at a biglaw firm came from the managing partner on day one of orientation: "We've never laid anyone off."
Firms that do not admit to layoffs and, instead, say the decisions are quality-based are offensive. Just admit to it and make it easier for the layed-off folks to get new jobs.
