Yes it should and honestly it should be required to take all of the time.
The reason is as simple as it slightly levels the playing field between parents.
Yes and it also will make you a better long term employee if given the time to be present in your family's biggest time of need. Employers too strongly value the present and it's annoying.

It’s the same for both and they just bumped it up from 3 months to 4 after we had our first. Well, our second is on the way so I’ll get four months to just be a dad this time lol.
Here in the UK usually well least from what I have seen
Mums get 6m full pay with time off
Dads get 2 weeks full pay with time off
Both parents should have time off to bond with the child and not speaking for the female gender but for Dad’s they should certainly get at least 8 weeks off to help do this. Sadly we are far behind the Scandinavian counties who have great benefits given by government
If you believe in equality both should get equal time
Umm no. But I do think men should have a leave. But us women we deserve paid time off. We are literally healing, and the amount we have now averagly is possible but not as healthy. Its more then just healing physically there is a whole mental side to it. Women go through depression and sometimes take their life or the babys. And its hormonal so you cant really prevent it. We don't have time to have our hormones go back to normal. And if you breast feed its ridiculous how hard it is to pump at work. Some places don't have a place to do it but you cant just do it in the middle of work. And we leak. Its impossible to stop unless we pump. Ive gotten rock hard and just leaking everywhere in pain because I couldnt find a place to pump in time. And I guess my son was hungry so I was producing for him. And its proven that breastmilk is better for the baby. And its natural so they should be more willing to give you time and space to do it. My company has a nursing room. Men should get time to form a bound with the baby and help a mother through physical healing. And if the mother requires help through the mental part they should be able to get paid through FMLA.
You are right, women do deserve more time off than men. But then a company will financially track women as more expensive than men. This will perpetuate subconscious bias in hiring, even if both genders are paid equally. The imperfect solution is to just give both parents the same amount of time off.
I don’t believe they should have equal parental leave. However if people want to have equality, the man should get the same as the woman.
My company gives about 4-5 months for parental leave but I do think the father shouldn’t receive 4-5 months though. It’s a bit of unpopular opinion but birth mothers should receive greater number of days, considering the labor process and other things that comes from pregnancies.
