Do you think the more client Alerts a lawyer or partner publishes means they actually don’t have enough billable work?

On a project right now where I am the only senior with 3 staff under me. There is a manager and director but the manager is very uninvolved and the Director is slammed - I’ve essentially been left to run the project. My issue is the 3 staff are completely MIA (Director and Manager knows) - they don’t respond to emails, Teams messages, meeting invites, etc. What would you do in this situation? Cold call them and tell them to work? Call their direct boss?

I’ve been a project manager for 7 years at the same company. It is small and I report to the Senior VP. I have not received annual evaluations and have had to fight for every increase in salary I’ve received. I recently expressed to my VP that I am interested in taking on new responsibilities and delegating some tasks where I feel I should no longer be involved. As I continue to navigate the waters surrounding my salary and YOE (23), I’m evaluating what I do in my current position. As the only designer, I enforce corporate brand standards for account comms and I do all creative things for the client: review creative briefs, conceptualize art direction (layouts, typography, color, etc) for print and web, prepare files, direct on how to make comms ADA compliant, review newsletters, etc. I don’t have a team, but am I more than a Senior Graphic Designer?

The company will begin its production of low cost EU certified electric buses in Q4. Electric is the future and now is the time to invest! I’m a first year. I got a random email from a high level partner asking me to basically handle an entire and very complicated matter that is not my practice area. In my 11 months since starting, my work has been limited strictly to my assigned section. I don’t think this partner (whom I’ve never met) even knows I’m a first year. What should I do? Continued:

I don’t understand how, but it feels like big law partners don’t get that we are only in this for the money (and they are too). “Experience” only helps me if it translates to future value. Is having an offer at another firm the only way to get a retention bonus? I’m still on pace for over 2900 hours for the year (5th yr in debt finance) and to be honest, a strong associate (currently enjoying life on 9 active matters...). Some partners are so stupid. In a free market system, if you want the good associate to work for you, you need to be a nice person. Otherwise, I have enough partners to feed me work and you’re the source of your own problem.

One partner is driving me insane. I CANNOT work with him. We are far enough in the case that it would take a lot of time for someone to take over for me but still early enough that the case will be going for another 2 years. Has anyone ever asked to be pulled from a case and is there a way to distance myself from this partner without hurting my reputation? 2nd year lit associate, partner is a jr partner in a different office but we cross staff a lot.
