Hi All, I recently interviewed at Amazon and Google for software engineer and passed both interviews. I have an offer on the table from Amazon but with Google I am officially in team matching and my recruiter tells me that the queue is pretty backed up now and it can take a long time. My question is should I take the Amazon offer now or decline Amazon and hold out for Google? I have heard that Google has better wlb/benefits. But I'm scared to decline Amazon without a guaranteed job offer.
I made a calculation mistake in my cost analysis in my Deloitte partner case interview for new grad 2023 position. Another thing that bothers me was when they asked my approach I gave a pretty detailed answer and one of the interviewers was satisfied but the second didn’t get it and asked me to explain it thrice and some to and fro talk was there. Rest of it was pretty good and I nailed the implementation part and behavioural for sure. Do you guys think I still have a chance? Deloitte

Proof of Work to Proof of Girth?
There's certainly a glass ceiling but it's already begun to crack. For instance, Tim Cook is openly gay and they still remain the CEO of Apple. That being said, it's definitely harder for women and minoritiy groups to break into the higher levels and part of it is because of prejudice. It's not impossible but it's certainly more of a challenge
Here's a good article if you want to look at some stats and research on the topic: https://www.investopedia.com/lgbtq-representation-in-the-workforce-5184133
TLDR; representation for LQBTQ+ people in the workplace is lower than you would expect but things are very slowly changing
I think there is yeah. Even the proportion of women to men in manager roles is not a 50 50 split and that's probably the "minority" group you'd expect to have the highest representation. It's going to take time before gay people are fully accepted in the corporate environment and we're just not there yet. The people calling the shots are still part of an entirely different culture when it comes to acceptance of minority groups.
I would like to think people are not focusing on one’s sexual orientation when choosing to promote them or not. Unfortunately we wouldn’t be able to test that but if you’ve excelled in positions and got awards maybe it’s not that? Do you feel that your managers or whoever might be (not) promoting you has some prejudice?
Unfortunately, people are more judgmental than you imagine. We sometimes like to think the best of people and see the good in them, but the truth is some people, for cultural reasons, are not really taught to be accepting of others and harbor judgment in their hearts.
Have you inquired to those above you why you haven't been considered for promotions? I doubt anyone's gonna come out and tell you if it were for prejudiced reasons but maybe there are some valid critiques of what's holding you back. Without knowing much more about you or your situation though, it does not seem like it's your qualifications or ambition that are keeping you in place
Could also be that your state is less progressive in that sense, may I ask what area you live in?
For sure there's a glass ceiling, our laws may be a bit more progressive nowadays but not enough time has passed for our culture to change. The youth today is generally more accepting of people with different orientations so maybe in like 20 or 30 years when those people become the ones in charge it'll become more common place. People like you are forging the path forward so it's natural that you'll encounter resistance along the way. The generations to come will benefit of all that you're doing today, if that's any consolation.
I’ve worked in several marketing roles where LGBTQ males were heads of departments and such. Sounds like you need a more progressive company !
