Do you think we’ll see a 4-day work week as the new standard anytime soon? 4-day work week meaning same comp, etc but just working one less day

i’d love to see a push for it! no need to be dedicating SO MUCH of our lives to a corporation.

It needs to be a national labor law. 32 hour work week for all.

Looser immigration laws to hire more qualified workers.

Life is so shocking short and precious, and workers have seen none of the gains of exponential productivity increases. Our exploitative capitalist system offers two distinct choices: sign over your soul to be middle class or above, or alternatively, keep your free time but afford nothing.

Make a universal change and companies will adapt to compete. The ones who burn time with useless meetings will fall further behind than normal. Bosses who can’t get results out of their team on 32 hour weeks no longer get the flexibility to push them to 60 hours.

Capitalism will still find a way to keep up with the rest of the world despite the restriction. And if not, fuck it. This isn’t a system worth saving.

PS over the hill was not meant to imply you’re old, just out of sight and touch of the rest of us. 😃

Doubt it but I am seeing more companies offer flexible schedules like working 4 10s or hybrid. It’s neat when employers actually take their employees preferences into account.

No

No. Why would I want to make my working days 25% harder?

What do Account Directors do that takes up five solid days? I’ve been in advertising for 25 years and rarely if ever saw an Account Director working late at the office.

I think you'll start to see more companies experiment with it as a way to compete if they can't match dollar for dollar in salary.

So like company A pays you 100k a year, but you get 4 days a week period. Company B is 120k a year, but it's 5 days (and your CEO emails you on Sunday because they saw a post on facebook they want you to investigate) which would you choose?

I think a lot of companies could easily do this without impacting productivity or increasing workload. So much time is wasted "looking" busy right now. but it's going to take someone big to be a prime mover to start the shift.

No. Capitalism has and always will work well for US - lets not rock the boat and become Europe.

Capitalism is re-skinned feudalism, where the main difference is that anyone can become an exploitive lord.

Then you'd have 3 days free, you could potentially have a second FT job. Companies wouldn't like that. It would drive inflation. I make $200k now and could get my work done in 3 days so $400k if I work 7?

like

Manager 1: Inflation mostly rises because of an expanded money supply, not because people work harder. The money supply is increased whenever a bank grants a loan. This is why the federal reserve controls the interest rates on those loans, as to be able to control the pace of inflation.

I seriously doubt it. I would love and support this, but just don't see how boomers at top would ever buy into it. And by the time they're out, all those replacing them would not want the new generation to have it better than them.

like

Yeah, when employees overwhelmingly want to have more WLB through more flexible schedules and management won’t allow it why would they fully give time off? Not happening.

I have heard that golin is considering this

We have no call Fridays and most people I work with obviously don’t work very much (or work at all) on Fridays. Even if it never becomes standard for corporate salaries jobs it’s already here in a lot of cases, especially with the rise in remote work. At my old company NO ONE worked Fridays. No one was online.

Nope. Not a chance

Nope

Millennials and Gen Z are pretty lazy these days so see why they would want 32 hr weeks, but no chance it’ll happen. Especially with all the WFH and hybrid staying.

Not a millennial or gen z but I don’t think that’s fair, we have been developing more ways to be more efficient for years but haven’t decreased working hours. Basically the people at the top have reaped the spoils. By no means do I think we need to go to a socialism model or anything but I think workers should re-examine hours.

Hi fishes, I was tapped for an internal transfer to the research division of our company. I was lucky to be made a manager in my current workstream w/ only 2 years of experience (typically takes 4-10). The new dept originally offered me an managerial role based on that, but after speaking with higher ups, said they can’t give me a managerial role because of parity issues with other members of the team. The new comp offered with the analyst grade is only peanuts above my current pay. Advice?
