Hi sharks, What is the process of onboarding in Oracle? I got to know my BGC is clear and they have finalized the start date. I got an excel sheet to fill information like PF, Health insurance and other relevant information for smooth onboarding. I haven't received anything after that. A1 you probably don't notice it as much because despite all the talk there is still quite a big social stigma around it
The line of work we are in is a breeding ground for mental health issues
I think there's a lot of talk but less action. I just think it's a big problem with quite a few people affected by it.
@op many more people than would ever admit it were at least at some point in there life affected by a mental illness. I want you to know that.
Also I was going through therapy most part of last year and team lead helped me accommodate therapy sessions based on my work day
I think that mental health is one of those subjects that gets a lot of talk and people are vocal about on a moral perspective but actually very few people in the workplace are affected by it.
@A3 May be you should start an initiative for support within ACN :)
Well, if I personally had the spoons,in definitely would. There is the Persons with Disabilities group that you can join OP. There's a mentorship program and you can get a mentor who has had to navigate issues similar to whatever you're facing :)
I think firms could do better to train managers on how to ID and accommodate "invisible" disabilities like chronic pain, depression, anxiety disorders, etc. It's one thing to provide resources to a group, and it's another, equally important goal to be able to foster a community that will casually accommodate folks without much fuss. And without the need for explicit medical disclosure, because that's hard too
@D2 it in part aligns with your F&P, talking to your team lead for a mental health day, shorter working hours/remote work days if you need to deal with something...opening dialogue for special accommodations through counselors if needed
Also, what kind of things do you think a consulting firm should do about mental health? It's a medical problem that a non-medical entity is not at a capacity to take on.
What kind of action would you expect OP?
I have heard of people getting certain accommodations for it at D. :)
I wish they had programs for disability advocacy the same way universities do. Knowing how to advocate for yourself when you have a chronic mental illness is an invaluable skill that takes a lot of practice
D1, what kind of accommodations?
That's all they do is talk. It's just fluff.
I've noticed my firm allows you to expense alcohol at dinner, does that count? It's all lip service when you're focused on short term metrics and letting entire divisions run their teams on 3h of sleep.
You are IN the matrix. Where will you turn for help? Hello.
