When I would travel for work at a previous company, they didn't expense tips & I never carried cash. However, I would have little gifts from the shops I'd visit or some candy bars & I'd write a thank you note in their language.
I almost always got a thank you response note and even a few times got a small gift from housekeeping myself. Even if I had never met the person face to face, just with little notes.
I don't believe in tipping anyone who already gets paid to do the service. Go above and beyond for something which I appreciate? Sure, I'll tip. Hospitality doesn't already get paid for their effort so tipping is a must. I was in hospitality for many years and I tip well.
Like below minimum wage like waiters/bartenders? Or just low compared to many other jobs? Never heard they were below like hospitality.
If I always hang the "no service please" sign, I don't need to tip, right?

Tip and expense it. It’s not coming out of your pocket 🤦♂️
I've stayed 150 nights a year at Marriott for 10 years and never even heard of tipping housekeeping
Assuming you’re not US based, because it’s common to tip valet, bellhops, housekeeping etc
My mom is a housekeeper and I know how hard she works so I always tip when traveling for work! I do $20/week.
Same. My mom is also housekeeper. I wish you all could see how grateful she is for every dollar she receives from tips
Always. There's no excuses not to if you're able to expense it. Not carrying cash is not a good excuse, stick 10 20's in your bag just for this purpose. Not getting service is not an excuse, it's free to you and meaningful for them. You have an opportunity to change someone's day, with 0 effort and 0 money.
If a housekeeper steals from you, don't tip them. Otherwise, tip them.
Not being able to expense it makes it a conversation, at least
I tip $5 per night I stay. I then expense it at the end of the trip.
I don't judge others that don't tip but I feel like house keeping staff are the forgotten people in the service industry doing one of the most undesirable jobs. $5 is the least I can do.
You should judge them. You’re doing the right thing.
As someone who came from this industry, you have no idea how hard housekeeping works. They are the heart of a hotel. Please tip or consider tipping- it’s always appreciated no matter the amount
$5 a night stayed
Pro
$0 always
You're a terrible person.
Before Covid I traveled constantly for 5+ years. Legit never even considered tipping housekeeping, like never even knew that was a thing.
That said, I keep the DND thing on my door for every single stay. I do not need nor want anyone in my room, in fact if anything when they clean they make it worse bc they make the sheets too tight again, move the remote back out of reach, take away my floor towel in the bathroom, put the shampoo/conditioner/body wash back in the wrong order, etc etc etc. It's kind of a nightmare actually lol, I spent a lot of time getting things right then they come in there and mess it all up again :/
Seriously lol
Absolutely. These peoples’ incomes are massively impacted by tips. Don’t be a goofball who thinks hard working cleaners haven’t earned it because they didn’t replace a towel. Even $5 is good, more is better
Yes $5-10 each night I have cleaning service, since staff often changes every other day
I love this question. I used to not tip but then I met my wife and told me about tipping and now I do it. One time after a team dinner I threw up on the floor. That day I left a 100 tip. I hate the tipping culture and wish it will go away.
Right. But the problem is so widespread that the solution probably has to be regulatory.
Sometimes I forget but I try to. It’s a really thankless job.
I tip housekeeping whether for work or personal. I leave a min of 20 but 50 for a week.
Cashless, so no
Pro
Soon, the people at check in desk are going to be asking for a tip. When does the tipping madness end? Guess what? No tips for anybody.
If you don’t tip them, regardless of your assessment of their work, you are a terrible person.

I used to do $20 a week and expense it when I was traveling pre covid. Maybe this changes now since they don’t turn over the room daily anymore.

At EY you can expense anything less than $25 without receipt
If you stay multiple nights, tipping each day really bumps up the cleaning service, towels, etc. If only one night stay you have some nice karma for the next hotel. $5/day. Think about the disaster areas these ladies have to face sometimes.

Never have, never will
So be a decent human and tip people that are less fortunate than you.
Like it or not, their wages are adjusted to reflect the fact that the custom is to get tipped.
