Not in Australia. We don’t tip. Employers are expected to pay a fair wage.
I learned this the hard way, I gave the bartender a tip in Australia and she looked at me like I had 2 heads 🤣

Definitely NOT on the bill. The Uber driver has no connection to me spending $20 on a burger or $50 on a steak (after all the other charges are piled on). I tip on the distance the driver had to drive from the restaurant to my house.

The driver gets a small chunk of the delivery fee.
I usually tip 1-2$, the app is expensive enough already with it's various different fees
Uber eats charges the customer a very hefty fee (some of which goes to the driver)
I wonder how many of the people commenting here have ever worked a job that relies on tips. From the way some people are talking, I’m guessing not many…
We have programs I don't love. But I'm not advocating people join up.
ive delivered food for awhile now during school, and a lot of people here seem to not understand how food delivery is paid.
DoorDash gives you either a $2 or $3 primary pay for each order. the rest comes from tip. all food delivery is different, but they’re all similarly based on tipping. the standard tip, in my opinion is $1 a mile, or $5 minimum. it is more important to tip for distance than it is for price of food, unless there is a high quantity.
i urge everyone to tip these drivers well. i have met a lot of people who deliver food from sun up to sun down, working 80+ hours a week. they run on tips. everyone here seems to be able to afford giving a good tip. please do so if possible!!
not *exactly* because the apps are sometimes trying to do that psychological incentive bs. but i would say 8/10 times we have a good idea. if something is 6 miles away, that’s a $3 base pay from DD. if the offer is for $6, we are able to figure out that’s a $3 tip.
I’m pretty frugal on tips for deliveries.. I feel like that, unlike waiters or other jobs where extra effort is needed to deliver quality, delivery is pretty black or white… I am very generous, however, when traveling for work and paying with the corporate card :)
Lol C6, you are contracting for their service labor. If you only want to pay for the food, then get off your ass and pick it up yourself
Generally, $5 minimum going up to $10+ depending on how far the restaurant is. If it’s a large bulky order, 20% of total bill.
I do this on a $80k salary. Sad seeing some folks making 2x+ what I make and only tipping $1-$2. Like someone said, if you can’t afford to tip, then you can’t afford delivery. Sad that some people here need this reminder.

If they paid for delivery with a $1 tip then guess what, they literally could afford the delivery. That’s the risk you run when employed on a tip model. Some will tip generously, some will stiff you. But if they wanted to make it so people “couldn’t afford the delivery”, they would just charge that much
I delivered for DoorDash on my bicycle when I was in between work. Size of the order definitely matters- it’s way more annoying to deliver a large and bulky order. Crazy that people would think $1-2 would be acceptable, esp at our consulting pay grades…!
20% of the subtotal.
Chief
10-20% depending on distance and what I get
Here's a twist, how much did you used to tip the pizza delivery guy vs how much do you tip Uber Eats delivery drivers?
I feel like I spend a Hell of a lot more for an UE delivery meal than for 2 pies but tip just about the same to the delivery
The pizza delivery guys used to know how to get your food to you without internet in their cell phones.
20% if delivery. People out here really tipping a buck Jesus christ
20%
Usually $5
I just got the app last night (had some friends over for drinks…. Turned into dinner)
I ordered Mexican food for 8 from a restaurant. Bill was ~$200 with alcohol. I tipped $25.
Seems like a lot for a 20 minute drive to deliver food?
A 10-20% tip is for a server who looks after your whole table for 1-2hrs and, where money often goes to others in the kitchen etc.
That same tip for someone who drives 15mins to your house, now with multiple orders in the car so it may not even be hot, is crazy.
Uber briefly let people tip the restaurant here, but seem to have killed that because it made it clear to customers that Uber was killing their suppliers.
Alright everyone sorry for the controversial post. I literally just downloaded the app and needed honest thoughts on what is acceptable (apologies for my ignorance).
My take away from this post was clearly I wasted $25 on Saturday evening when I tipped Lashonda. (She seemed nice and professional? Albeit was a brief conversation)
Thanks for everyone’s input! Let’s be truly human as a profession and move forth and conquer!

Since I live in the city and the places I order from are usually a mile or two away, I tip $3. I tip $5 when it's rainy or order a lot.
Tip generously in cash
Show, don’t tell. You may think it’s generous, but others have learned here they are not as generous as they think they are. Tell us an actual amount or %
yep depends on distance and weather, but typically 10%
15-20%
