Seems like a boundary is being crossed. You are not saving lives at 2am. Only your SO, parents, etc. should be calling at that hour with an emergency.
That's total bullshit and a power move. Fuck that. I can see late at night if you're on a deadline or new business pitch but 2 am? Is this standard operating procedure? I had a boss once say she stopped doing that bullshit once she realized it didn't make her look good. She was essentially saying to everyone she had no life, no boundaries and that she expected everyone else to operate in the same way. She had originally thought it demonstrated how hard she was working, but instead it made the people who work for her feel like shit. And always on pins and needles because they might get that stupid email on a Saturday night. She now drafts all of her emails late at night and saves them until the next morning. And then hits send. She does the same on the weekends and sends them out Monday morning. Best piece of advice ever. It's okay to have a cut off. 7, 8 pm is reasonable. Unless it's a text to say you're awesome and here's a big fat raise. That can come any time.
F that. Cell - texting and calls are for personal use. Email is for work. And 2AM is for sleep!
I used to get this. Texts and slacks as late at 1 or 2 am restarting at 5am. I put my iPhone on DND, but eventually quit because, fuck you.
The good thing about having a work phone sometimes is pretending you didn't see it because your phone was in your bag/backpack. I blocked my boss' number on my personal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly, it's not only disrespectful, it also shows poor management of time on your boss's part. Echoing that sentiment that we're not saving lives here.
Not normal at all. Managers should know better.
A 2 am text is a very late booty call. Is that in your JD?
I would say that's a bit inappropriate. Your boss should respect your personal time.
Set up a out-of-office message "you have reached me outside of my office hours" Then go to HE
If they don't pay you for cellphone then submit your bill as an expense. Also, this is bullshit
Always wonder why we treat email like instant messenger. Let anyone email whenever and respond whenever.
Terrible Leadership
Back in my CP+B days this was all I knew. Took 5+ years to finally turn off push notifications and/or checking my phone every hour or so throughout the night. Ohhhh the glory days! Soon I'll have Marcel hitting me up instead!
