What is the process of rolling over 401k from previous employers? I have been in the US for 8 years & switched jobs a couple of times. Was not aware that 401k needs to be rolled over. Please advice.

Got lucky and made 2 mil from stock picks. Very unexpected. Calculated it out and would be comfortable living off the investment with 4% withdrawal for two. Now it makes me wonder - if you reach $2-5M under 30, would you: A) continue working B) take a gap year or C) retire early? Why do people continue working?

Currently maxing out my 401k, my spouse’s 401k, and HSA. Socking away in 529s too. Investing leftover cash into taxable accounts (index ETFs). With my 2022 raise, I’m fortunate enough to have more left over and I’m wondering what others do. Interest rates are too low to justify parking lots of cash in a”high yield” savings account or CD. Real estate prices seem absurdly high to get in now on investment properties. I’m not savvy enough to pick individual stocks. Angel investing? Anything else?

Moving my former employer 401K to a tIRA (former employer match was pre-tax) and Roth IRA (my contributions to Roth 401K) at the advise of my financial advisor. Any reason to keep the money where it is instead or roll over to my new employer?

Retirement savings question: I am in my early 30s and have been maxing out 401k for many years, but have just realized that men in my family die by the age of 60, historically (bad genes). Given the retirement age to pull funds penalty free is well after that, should I be putting my funds elsewhere (e.g., regular brokerage)? Sort of a morbid question, but it's been on my mind. Any advice is appreciated.

CHANGE MY MIND: 25Y, salary 80k, 25k in HYSA, max roth, contributing to 401K. I’m currently living with my parent (free) since the pandemic started and moving across the country whenever it’s back to “normal”. But I miss having my own place, and looking at a $1500/m apartment for max 6 months. I know it’s not a financially good idea since I can keep living for free but I don’t like being at home(miss having my own place). I would be saving like $1500 each month but it could be $3k!

Under what circumstances does it make sense to have some kind of life insurance other than term? I don’t understand the case for “investing” in a whole life plan instead of any number of other investments that would add to my estate. What am I missing? People in the U.K., have you merged your pension pots? Would you recommend it? Pros/Cons?

Is putting pre-tax money into 401k or setting aside after-tax money better? After-tax money is set aside in an Amex account that it's less easy to withdraw and earns about 0.9% interest income.

I could potentially earn less than the top of the phaseout range for a Roth contribution if I make my Dec 401k contribution 100% regular pretax vs Roth 401k. But then I can do a Roth IRA conversion. On the flip side, I could put more into the Roth 401k in Dec, which makes my AGI go up and prevents putting into a Roth IRA. But I could still do a Roth conversion. Thoughts on which direction to go in?

Anyone here consider (or actually) take a Coronavirus distribution for their 401k (assuming you meet the vague requirements for one) of up to 100k (no 10% penalty, three years to roll into another plan (can be IRA-roth or non Roth) and counted as a trustee to trustee transfer (no one per year IRA rollover issues)?

Thoughts on using this as an opportunity to get $100k out of the 401k and into accounts you want to increase investment flexibility (and broker account bonuses)?

I found out after 4 long interviews over the past 6 weeks that I didn’t get the role. However, they reached out to let me know I was a top candidate and it was a tough decision. They want me to apply instead for a different role on that team and do one more interview with a person who works on that subset team. Is this a red flag or anyone been through something similar? I’m exhausted.

B4 is all I've ever known. Granted, that career is very young at this point. But a startup has expressed interest in me, at double my salary. I'm used to all the resources B4 provides.

I find myself resisting the potential for that absolutely massive change, if it were to go my way. For anyone who has gone to a startup from B4, how did you cope with the change and how was the startup environment different from B4?
