Just realized my firm offers a Roth 401k option. I’ve been contributing pre-tax but now not sure what to do. I know Roth is theoretically better, but is there any reason to do pre-tax? What about a combination of the two?
Does maxing out your 401k reduce your taxable income by that respective amount so that you can reduce your tax liability at the end of the year? Sorry if it’s obvious/dumb!

Best investment accounts if my firm doesn’t offer a 401K and I make too much to have a Roth IRA?
Need some advice! I'm a recent PhD grad (30 yo) in STEM, and just got some offers from different companies. Particularly, two of them are interesting to me. 1) from a Energy Market Company in Pennsylvania as an Operations Research Scientist, 95k + 15% bonus + very good benefits and generous PTO. It's a very chill job (9-5) with good people but limited opportunity to growth. 2) from a consulting company in NYC as a data science consultant, 130k + 10k signing bonus. Which one you choose? why?

I was doing real consulting work for a Wealth Management tech firm and took a job at another tech firm for twice the money. They hired me to the Org because they wanted to stand up a new team that actually worked with customers and consulted for new opportunities. The current Org's 'consulting' title is really glorified onboarding. The point in hiring me was to help with enablement, and eventually manage a team. Con't

Newly promoted experienced hire SC making $113k, 10 YOE (switched industries). Got an offer from TCS in an Advisory practice (not the tech sweatshop stuff that I keep seeing people mention). Base salary is $190k and in TCS equivalent of a M role. Downside to taking the salary hike and boomeranging back to D in ~2 years? FYI - I have 2 kids, so that kind of pay raise is kind of a big deal.
