Advice on managing up / enduring toxic deal teams? I’m at the point where my stomach drops any time I see something come in from certain people. What, exactly, are these Archive global creative "rankings" based on? I see people posting/humbled-and-honored'ing on LinkedIn and feel like posting that I'm the #17 CD/AD/Freelancer as ranked by both Better Homes & Gardens AND Cat Fancy Magazines.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.

Hi everyone! Idk if I need advice or I’m venting but I’ve been looking for jobs actively right now and want to make a switch soon. There’s a gap in terms or compensation for the jobs I’m being approached for. These jobs offer the same compensation I’m at or slightly higher (5-7%). This is demotivating and I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t make an awful lot (105K in NYC) and I’m looking for a 20-30% bump in terms of compensation. Am I crazy here?

Books to learn more about how to drive sales in consulting? Any recommendations?

A friend of mine from a top tier consulting firm was counseled out. Do you consider it ethical that his career counselor is intentially spreading the information to his colleagues and to other consultants from other companies in the project? What can he do about it? Specially that he considers the potential layoff is purely based on the current situation (chargeability was low) and not on his performance (they said that his contribution to BD during his bench time was low)?
