Not needed, needed if wanting to make a career switch that requires an MBA but those do not. Possible option is part time MBA which others have mentioned that some companies will help pay. Would not recommend full time MBA here

More context, close to getting to a manager level role prob in another year or so, is an mba needed to get to the director level or can I just work my way up without making that type of investment?

None of the directors I work with have an mba; I do however. There’s no immediate benefit to having one. The jury is out if it is valuable in the long term. This is a top 10 mba degree.

Internally doesn’t matter as much, matters more for external opportunities and then is just a way to get in the door for a conversation.

Are you thinking about trying to lateral to strategy/Corp Dev at the director level? It's generally easier to break into a new function at a more junior level and go up the ranks that way.

I think it would be good for you to set up time with seniors in your field to get their advice. Generally if you are not thinking about switching fields you should look into part-time or executive MBA degrees. Some organizations will even help pay for those type of degrees.

Where you at?

I’m in the same shoes. I’m finally getting closed to the manager level role and I love what I’m doing. The idea of MBA is very appealing but there’s a lot to give up. Even after graduation I may not get a job like what I currently have, so the more I think of it the more I question if it’s for me.

Any advice on where to start with the MBA process? I literally have no clue where I’d want to go, what my “why” is other than I’m bored with my job, or how to go about applying. Any help is appreciated lol

Stupid question, but I’m curious about the bowls feedback: There are two positions at Adobe I’m extremely interested in, but they’re for University graduates and MBA students. Would Adobe, or any other company, consider a student who doesn’t fit that criteria? Or is that an automatic disqualification? I graduated 2020 if that matters

Looking for advice: Wife and I looking to buy a home in about a year or so. Have enough cash/liquid investments for about ~10% down payment for our target home price. DTI is around 28%, almost entirely from my MBA loans. Should our priority be to build up more cash for a larger down payment (maybe we get to 20%+ and avoid PMI, but not certain), or focus on lowering our DTI and try and get a better rate?

Looking for some perspectives on where to focus my energy. Currently 32 at a Manager level doing cloud consulting. Spent a few years in industry first. Others on my team have left for a variety of roles like Sr. SWE, L6 at AWS, or F500 director level (w/ MBA). I lean towards the corporate leadership route to maximize earnings, but I feel like MBA would improve odds there and I’m not sure about taking that much time off. Wyd?

Here’s my take… Big Tech is about to turn into every other industry. Gone are the days of the over the top perks, huge comp packages etc. With valuations taking monster hits due to various headwinds (increased competition, regulatory pressure, consumer awareness and others), it won’t be the hot place to work for much longer.
