Yes, we have an entire healthcare consulting arm. We do strategy, revenue cycle, care access, physicians solutions, executive coaching, emergency department flow, perioperative, etc
Have done growth strategy work for a med-tech company, opportunity size & go to market strategy for a startup and sales strategy for large pharma cos. Don’t think my experience is super unique at my firm - people won’t work with a startup every day, but there’s plenty of other strategic stuff I haven’t touched - will also depend on level; entry level may be a bit more pigeon holed into specific types of work where they can build experience/expertise.
I’ve worked with Providers, Payers, and Pharma over the past 15 yrs, but enjoyed Pharma / LS the most. Within the Life Science area I’ve done a lot of strategy (which products, which markets, lifecycle management, which companies to acquire or collaborate with, which divisions to divest). The past 4-5 years it’s been a lot of M&A and then back end operational transformation. The big pharma clients are trying to develop more capabilities in house (like digital supply chain) and codify learnings. The last area is innovation in life sceiences and that’s along the lines of partnering and supporting physicians, providers, patients, and payers. There’s a big intersection with digital here and many executive workshops around what should we be doing now, in 5 / 10 / 15 years. There’s also the geographic dimension, what works in US usually needs to be changed for EU, Japan, Australia, etc..
I don’t but know a few people who do - one seems like they’re always working on electronic medical records implementation projects for whatever that’s worth...
Check out companies like Optum. United health care’s kind of “consulting” division.
Roommate works in healthcare consulting. Does strategy work - helping pharma companies decide which diseases to point their drugs towards (for those that are effective towards multiple). Go to market strategy. New product strategy. Some pricing (but minimal at her firm). I think people’s experiences and perceptions of HC consulting REALLY depends on the firm.
OP I’m working in healthcare. To PWC1s point I am working on an ehr implementation lol.
Accenture OP it depends on what you’re looking for. I like it because I think I’m making a meaningful impact at the end of the day so I’m more mission driven. Tech probably has more interesting opportunities and growth
I’ve done a lot of work with health insurance companies. Work generally involves system consolidation, modernization, process improvements/automation, and executive reporting
Thanks everyone
I used to be in HC consulting. Most projects / clients tended to be life sciences and payers. Essentially the folks that make money haha.
Providers, Payers, Pharma. For profit, not for profit, government. You name it - it’s a broad church with everything from Strategy work, through MC and TC, and SI and Operations. Plenty of our people have done some terrific good for the US in Health - same for other firms too.
