I’m so depressed. I’ve been interviewing for months. Every week is just more rejection. I have a promising meeting tomorrow for a contract gig but I’m weighed down by last week’s disappointments. 😔

For those of you that worked in industry before going into consulting, how did you get the job? What did you do that got your foot in the door and impress them during the interview?

I have accepted my sexuality and found peace with the long battle of wanting to be something not what I actually am. On one side I have a lot of pressure around me being gay and trying to get a PR and get out of India, on another side I have a lot financial issues. I’m trying so hard to focus on work and to meet the expected bar for my current role. But the office politics here is toxic and always putting me down. Just wondering whether things will get better ever.

How to navigate a phone interview better when speaking with someone whom you can’t understand well due to their heavy accent. I had to ask her to repeat her questions every time and felt very dumb.

Directors & Partners:

Any cases where an employee (successfully) strong arms a 40-50% pay increase due to a unique position with a big client? Did it cause any issues? Were they resented for leveraging their unique position in a project to get higher pay?
