Does any one anticipate big law layoffs in the U.S. in the coming months? If so, which big law is most likely given their acts in 2008 and which level associate is more likely to let go first?

I have a pending H1-B petition and I was laid off today. Can I still get H1-B approval provided my current company does not revoke my LCA/petition? I’m currently on F1 STEM OPT and I have an approved H4 EAD that kicks in next month when my F1 expires. Is it possible to have H1-B and H4 together? Any thoughts on what’s valid and what should be done?

Has anyone been fired or unexpectedly laid off? And care to share their experiences post being let go? Often times people feel this is the worst thing that could happen to them. I have to be honest I’m not convinced it is

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?

9 weeks after being laid off ... I got an offer today that far surpasses everything I’ve hoped for in consulting... low travel, no utilization worries and no sales bogey. I’m glad I kept my tech skills up.

I’m experiencing defensiveness from them on assignments that the GC has asked us to work on jointly. Is it true that it’s exceedingly difficulty to transition from insurance defense work (7+ years) to either commercial litigation or an in-house position? I’m worried about staying on this path for too long, becoming pigeon holed and not being able to get out of it.

Not a lawyer specific question, but since many of us have crazy student loan debt thought I’d ask here. Why on earth isn’t there a conversation around the predatory interest rates on student loans? I feel like it would be so easy for the federal government to slash those rates, then people would actually pay back their loans, and it would be so much better for so many. We are instead having exclusively conversations about loan forgiveness but why no love for reduction in interest?
