No it pretty much sucks from top to bottom. I'm leaving before senior.

The flexibility is the best thing about PA....assuming you aren’t in busy season

This audit job completely blows

likefunny

Some days. I like the people I work with and find the work interesting. There’s just too much work and too few people to do it and that’s never going to change

likesmart

I don’t think the work in PA is usually the problem seeing how many people leave to private at a transferable role. I always thought the greater issue is the immense gap between firm demands/expectations and compensation.

I graduated undergrad in 08 (pre recession 07 hiring season) and the starting associate salaries have barely moved

likesmart

The hours aren’t great, a lot of people suck, but definitely learning more in public than I would elsewhere

likefunny

No, but I like food and my house and being able to buy things.
So, I'm stuck.

likefunny

Yes. I left for industry after 15 year PA and came running back. I found a wonderful regional firm to work for that sees me for all the good I can bring. There is work/life balance and OT pay for any hours over 40. This is the exception and not the norm in PA but I couldn’t be happier that I found it

likesmart

Yes, came from industry so I've seen both sides. Industry was an absolute bore for me and I didn't feel like it was challenging at all on the staff level.

funnyhelpful

Yes...

likefunny

I like the audit work, I just don’t like working 12-15 hours a day.

likefunny

Yea there are a lot of great learning opportunities!

likefunny

Yes, tax consulting work is pretty interesting. Some compliance stuff is tedious and boring of course but every job has that type of thing

likefunny

Well the work is not too interesting but at least the hours are good. Oh wait, it's not. Well I mean the hours are bad but at least we get paid well. Oh wait, we don't. Why am I here again?

likefunny

YES!!! I have worked in industry too. The initial salary may be good but promotions and raises are either non-existent or extremely minimal. Also it’s the same thing EVERY. DAY. ALL. DAY. I love PA. I have gotten to shape my career and choose my path. Sure the hours aren’t great, but as you move up the flexibility is unbeatable. Where else can you take off in the middle of the day to get something personal done without having to take leave or ask permission? I’m an adult, I have needs and responsibilities outside work too. Also I’ve gotten some amazing projects and gotten to work with some amazing people. Some bad too but I’ve learned from them (people and projects) and can choose not to do it again. That is NOT possible in industry...you would have to move groups/companies to get away from disruptive coworkers

likesmart

Yes... not tax, not external audit, but I do like risk assurance (most of the time)

funny

Overall I do like it. Only thing I hate is busy season, of course 😞. I’m in audit.

Most days

No

If you like audit you might be insane
