Does anybody else apply for jobs on Indeed and refuse to take those accounting tests some employers require? I look at it this way - I have a CPA, MBA and 20+ years experience. If that doesn’t prove I know my sh@t, then feel free to hire someone else.

If you have 20 years of experience, cpa, mba, why are you even on indeed? Feel like you have a far better chance going through your network or recruiters at that point

damn yeah that’s pretty true I’m only a senior and got my first position outside of public through a recommendation I worked with prior

Plenty of people let their skills deteriorate. Or lack common sense. They cram for the certifications but then don't use half of that info and it fades.

I personally think the testing is ridiculous, but I've worked with plenty of people that had multiple years of experience that would've been weeded out by a simple online skills test and saved us a lot of grief. Both sides of the argument are valid here.

like

That’s very true. A lot of the CPA programs I’ve seen teach you to cram for the certification and just move on with your life.

Does anyone have the 2020 SHRM books for sale or to borrow? My job won’t contribute towards my certification. I’ve already paid for my test. I have the books from 2015 but I’d like to study from the 2020. I tried finding them online to purchase but sellers of affordable books aren’t responding.

I graduated with a degree in Business in 2018. I’m planning to pursue a Masters in Engineering (likely will pair with MBA) and have been taking the required pre-reqs over the last year from community college.

Is there a big difference between MEng and MS degrees? Or about the same?

I started off looking in going into Mechanical Eng but now looking more into Civil & Environmental.

Is anyone here willing to provide insight about job prospects between the two fields?

Or any other advice?

Hi all,

Need some advice on my next career move. I'm 31, have an MBA and am currently a SC in Risk Advisory with no M&A experience. I am good at risk consulting work but don't find it very challenging or interesting. That said, I expect to get promoted to M next year.

Recently, I interviewed with another Big 4 firm for SC in CDD M&A team and have got an offer. I enjoyed doing the CDD case study, and I believe I'd do well in the role.

Does it make sense to start afresh in M&A at this stage?

I interviewed for an accounting manager role today at a private equity investment firm. I interviewed with the finance manager, he told me he works 40-70 hours per week. Would you anticipate this as a red flag, meaning that hours are closer to 70 than 40?

I didn’t press too hard since this was a 1st round interview. Currently I work 40-45 hours, so his answer is a little concerning, I asked my recruiter to follow up.
