Does anybody else feel like “welcome back!” emails and messages are just people passive aggressively telling you that they know you took time off?

Nah, but maybe I just don't care.

Someone in our acceleration center emailed me “I am glad you are back!” after a week off and it almost sounded like he was afraid I wouldn’t come back hahaha

likefunny

Nope. I just literally needed a friendly into for my email and that happened to work. People are self centered and literally do not care enough to notice you’re gone IMO. Then again I’m always in call…

like

I think it is just a nice way not to just start right in on what they need you to do…. More of a common courtesy.

I hope not! While I don’t say “welcome back” exactly, I usually will say something about enjoying time off. I always mean it as genuine well wishes, as well as an acknowledgement that they have been out for a while and are still getting back in the swing of things (and may need a nudge, the first email likely being buried in their inbox).

The “this is fine” meme, except the caption is “welcome back”

like

I take it as “I live rent free in their heads” because why do they remember 👀

likefunny

Do you tend to assume the worst in people?

like

Ouch... sorry. It just seems like most people would have good intentions with “welcome back” honestly. Maybe I’m naive.

I like my team members, so I’m genuinely happy they’re back when I say that. Nothing more intended on my part, so I’ve never interpreted it that way on the receiving end.

No

No I really just welcome my collegues and hope they had a good time off

Hello everyone, Does anyone use 12.9 iPad (with a magic keyboard) as a “second workstation”? For example: lightweight typing machine when you need to work on an email or draft a document, or just join a conference call. Hi everyone! I recently accepted a new job with a Big 4 and am also newly engaged. I have a couple of concerns… the main one being that I may not have enough time off for 2022 to cover taking off for the wedding, honeymoon, and then a couple of other weddings where I’m supposed to be a bridesmaid. Do you think there would be any wiggle room with managers allowing time off, or is it generally pretty strict? (Continued in comments)

Back again with a question for the McKinsey folks! 1. Is it true that if you are internal (specifically PD) you are not eligible for a performance bonus? Just base and the 401K profit sharing? 2. I know McKinsey offers a percentage of your salary into a retirement fund. The recruiter painted it as a range (from 7-12%), but other fish in the main consulting bowl said it’s either 7 OR 12% (no in between) based off of if you’re client facing or internal - which is true? Applying to T15 in R2. Currently have a 700 GMAT (43Q, 41V) after taking once. Even if I raise my quant to 47, which would be impressive for me, I’ll still be at a 700 (possibly 710). 3.6 undergrad GPA. Worth retaking? Or just focus on the rest of my applications?

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!
