I deployed in ‘09 to Iraq then to Afghan ‘10-‘11 and while it was a crazy time I feel like I’m right where I need to be. I’m not a high earner by any means but I feel comfortable in where my career is headed.

I think it is how you utilize and market yourself. As a grunt our community generally accept the fact, the only equivalent jobs in the civilian world are security, police etc.. this often leads us to feel like we are behind but the skills and experiences, if marketed a certain way can catapult you ahead of your competition. And as other mention making you feel more fulfilled in the spot you land.

No, I think generally may set you back initially when you return, but within a year you are about caught up to where you would have been. Unless there was just an amazing/rare opportunity you didn't get to pursue or experience while you were away.

The short version for me is yea, but it’s not totally due to deployment.

I was in the Army Reserve and deployed a few mo the after graduating college. When I came back home I got a job in a diff career than my MOS and previous civilian job. As previously stated, I caught up to most ppl within a year. However, I ended up transitioning out of that industry and now I’ll be perpetually behind in age but my broad experience has accelerated my growth in the current industry.

I have been at the company I’m at for about 3 years, my first job out of college. I like it but I’m looking to get more experience elsewhere. However, since I do like it there, I’ve been picky about where I apply because I don’t want to be at a place where I don’t feel like it’s an improvement from my current job situation.

I’ve been networking and gotten at least a few referrals and a lot of networking calls. I’ve put about 25….

Im an entry level business analyst at a big bank but via a consulting company in London, uk . Struggling to find a mentor. Any tips ? I really want a mentor. My manager is new to tech too so can’t really teach me a lot, her answers are often “I don’t know”. Other tech people seem to be super busy and struggle to find extra time to schedule me in for personal mentoring

The partner I work for covers all depositions and doesn’t let me do any unless she absolutely can’t cover because of her schedule. I would like to take depositions and it would be great experience for me but she keeps it all for herself because it’s great billable. It’s so frustrating.

Can someone explain using VA healthcare while having private insurance? I have a non service connected condition I need checked out but my private primary dr can’t see me for like 2 months.

What will I be responsible for costs? How does it work with my private insurance? My deductible which I haven’t hit yet? PwC has terrible super high deductible insurance if it matters. I’m also 90% service connected any priority group 1.
