When your service line sends out the period update and it shows that we're consistently 20% below plan....guess I won't be counting on a decent raise next year 😑
I went to my boss at work and said, "I need a raise. Three other companies are after me." He said, "Really? Which other companies are after you?" I said, "The electric, water and gas companies"
My performance review is coming up. I have a degree in Info Systems so I didn't ever think I'd be in consulting. If I make 62.5k, how much should my raise be after 8 months?
Currently pushing for a promotion and trying to gauge what salary I should be asking for. Any thoughts on starting salaries for senior strategists? Or a typical percentage increase from current?
How do you ask for a raise? And I do mean quite literally what words do you say. I have a mid year review coming up and I want to ask. Just finished my first year, started at a very low salary (65k) for defense litigation associate and no raise yet. I am in a state where wages are lower than the big cities but I still think this is too low given partners make 250k-500k/year. Thanks.
Raise your hands if you value sleep over spending an extra +/- 30 minutes to get ready in the AM. Rock the natural look ladies (and gentlemen)!
Has anyone either been laid off or just switched from Big4 during covid to corporate? Was it difficult? did you still receive a raise? If so, how much?
I am looking for moving forward in my career. My background is as follows: - bachelors in environmental health and safety engineering (EHS) - masters in safety sciences 6.5 years work experience - worked in distribution in EHS for a year - worked in EHS Consulting for 3 years - currently working in insurance consulting in risk management Want to get opinions on next move. Living in TX now. Insurance pays alright but my last raise was less than inflation rate and salary growth is low.
My team mate has a very noisy way of biting his nails - imagine a smacking sound. Happens all day long in the team room. How do I tactfully raise this?
Negotiating a promotion and raise from Sr Manager to Assoc Director. How much should I ask for? Low 100s?
One of the SMs is supporting my promotion case but they are lately trying to micromanage me and ask all nagging questions unnecessarily. Unsure how to handle this professionally.
Are good looking people usually getting faster promotion, tending to do more management and non tech work?
Took a diagnostic test for GMAT got a 550. I would like to raise it by at least 100pts. I understand that’s a lot haha and Looking to take real thing in Nov. is that enough time? Been doing about 1-2hrs a day during work week and ramping it up on weekends. Thanks!
If your promotion leaves you undervalued and your boss says it's not a reflection of your skills and ability, it was a decision based on "pay band". How do you fight for the right title?
How many years of experience is generally (not specific to one company) expected for promotion to manager?
I’m looking to pivot into a startup role, preferably at seed stage or series A. Does anyone have any leads? I’m purposely leaving out experience in case other people are interested in this too.
If you were applying to grad school (MBA) and had someone offering to write a rec letter what traits would you ask them to focus on? Rephrased, what traits would selection committees be most interested in?
Thoughts on Chime? Accepted offer from Apple then they hit me up with a higher comp band (recruiter not even applied). Add in pre IPO it’s a higher risk higher reward
I’ve gained 20 lbs since COVID started. Don’t think I can fit in any of my pre-COVID work pants. Anyone else in the same boat?
3 years ago, I interviewed someone who didn’t get the job. They emailed me weeks after, and asked, “I don’t care if I don’t get the job, I just want to be friends.” I never responded. Still feel bad
I am so grateful to have a job right now but I am really struggling. I’ve been at D for a little under a year and have been really unhappy with my experience. In particular, my current project and my direct supervisor make me feel unbelievably incompetent and under appreciated. Given COVID, there is little flexibility to roll off. I’ve tried to stick it through but I’m at a breaking point. Any suggestions on how to make the best of it? Or next steps?
I posted this in the consulting exit ops bowl but figured it might be of interest here too. I'm launching a weekly newsletter that includes interesting exit opportunities for consultants, bankers, etc. across PE, VC, strat/biz ops, finance, and product plus helpful tips, Q&A, advice, etc. on successfully navigating the job search (I used to be a recruiter). Would love for anyone interested to subscribe! Here's the link: exitup.substack.com
When you're dressed like a bum and an AA gold tries to check you for boarding position. Oh wait I got upgraded and you didn't.
- Finished MBA end of 2018 - Upon graduation, MBA hire to tier 2/3 firm (basically tech consulting), laid off June 2020 - October 2020- started as PM/scrum master with mid-tier AWS consulting partner Question- I've always wanted to go to a top tier consulting firm for the experience/brand for PM/Program management. Would you be willing to take a paycut to make it happen? It seems in current climate candidates have all the leverage, but being told I don't have the experience for manager level
Recruiter asked for total comp for a financial analyst role in service cost modeling at Apple in Cupertino, CA. Glassdoor ranges are very wide, 54-146 just for base. Thoughts?
I'd love to hear about what people are doing to stand out in providing feedback for candidates who made it to the final interview stage but did not make the offer.
Anyone here who suffers from ADD/ADHD? My Vyvanse wears off around 4:00, I take Adderall to supplement but my psychiatrist is reluctant to give me more Adderall to power through the day/night; he just doesn’t get B4 busy season. Any advice?
Doing benchmarking for the Women’s ERG at my company, anyone willing to share if their employer offers egg freezing benefits and if so what it covers?
Found a job that I think is the one. One of my mentors works at the company and is going to review my resume for me ahead of my applying. Just found the hiring manager on LinkedIn and was thinking about messaging him to introduce myself and express interest. Should I wait until I formally apply to do so would it be okay to do it before?
Best CC for points? Recommendations? Also does anyone know if you can get hooked up with points by referring friends to a specific card?
What are the best reasons to go full-time after freelancing? I started freelancing a month ago after I was laid off thinking it would just be temporary but I’m really enjoying it so far. My stress levels are lower and the money is better. I have a few full time opportunities in the mix and I’m trying to gauge if I should go back to full-time or stick with freelance. For those who have taken a full time gig after a successful freelance run, what did you base your decision on?
Has there been in layoffs in Public sector? From what I can tell it has been all in commercial advisory...
