What's going on in DC tonight
I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?
Anyone at Deloitte know how to view utilization?
Youâre checking out and this pops up. Wyd?

Itâs great because you donât need a car. Very walkable, great brunches. The only place I would avoid is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, it has foul occupants.
Also, be prepared for the classic question everyone in DC asks when they meet you: âSo, what do you do?â
You can find friends who never ask who are secret millionaires or on law partner track. That's when you know you've made it
DCâs one of the most culturally interesting cities in the country.
Also increasingly good restaurant scene, and lots of green spaces.
Let me guess A1, you think San Francisco is the most culturally interesting city in the country đ
đ no culture
Iâm from NYC. I like NYC. I like DC.
I now choose to live in DC.
DC definitely has culture. Been here for years and love it. (Non-politics type, to boot)
Thereâs a major food and art scene - if youâre looking. Anyone who says DC has âno cultureâ probably doesnât find much âcultureâ anywhere. With tons of music venues, large and small, thereâs great local music every night of the week or huge national acts at the major concert spaces. Add the small-town vibe of cityâs many walkable neighborhoods to the increasingly cosmopolitan downtown, and you get the best of both worlds.
Traffic is a nightmare; metro can be awful. People like to talk about work. But itâs a great city...if youâre in the city. Arlington on the other hand.

DC > NYC
As someone whoâs lived in both, I couldnât disagree more. But, to each their own! Both great cities.
Fun city. Itâs like a not as fun or cool New York with great food, really educated crowd, and you can see grass trees and the sky and leave really easily if you want. Cool neighborhoods and successful people
Hah having worked full time in NY...people work way too much in ny
Good food. Never a dull moment. Not a lot of artsy/nonprofessional people
Thereâs a huge arts community itâs just a bit underground. Look up Hole in the Sky and Dwell Dc, two great art spaces with weekly events, art shows, dance parties
Food scene is huge now. DC gets high marks for green space and lots of fun free things to do. Buying a house is still - somewhat - possible. Traffic blows and people from Maryland are the worst drivers
D2 Not personally but have heard secondhand from friends that it was terrific
I was born in DC and grew up in the DMV area. I left for college (Midwest) and moved back after college.
I'm biased but I love the area. The area is easily one of the most if not the most ethnically and economically diverse regions in the US and with that comes an integrated multicultural culture. With that comes tons of good places to eat and experience nightlife form hole in the wall spots in VA and MD to upscale ethnic restaurants in the city.
There's tons to do, from musuems, sightseeing, nightlife etc. And it's pretty hard to actually get bored here. And idk what A1 is talking about DC, and the DMV definitely has a culture unique to the rest of the states and isn't even that hard to find. When I meet people from outside the area I always talk about how unique our slang is but that's just one aspect.
But tbh I'd like to know your interests and what you're looking for in a city so I can see if DC is a good city for you
I live in DC. Itâs amazing and think of it like New York but more polished and nicer. People are educated and has decent jobs and will ask you where you went to school and what you do. Massive dating pool and some good bars and restaurants.
I recently moved from DC to NYC. Curious to hear what the two have in common to you, because I find them to be pretty dramatically different. Good museums might be just about the only thing I can think of...
Definitely has a culture...but itâs evolving cause...gentrification
DC is great, went to college there and I miss it all the time but to echo what someone before me said, itâs not as fun or cool as New York (where I currently live) but itâs not an overwhelming city so if youâre new to cities or at least big cities, DC is a great move. Lots of great brunch places, the food scene is growing and the arts scene is already fantastic. Museums are free which is great, thereâs performing arts centers and whatnot, lots of great weekend activities.
Again, as an NYC resident, I find DC to be a lot less âhappeninâ during times when NYC would be very lively, like in the evenings during the week. You might find it a little desolate feeling after work hours.
The metro is very eh, but the city is beautiful imo so just walk if you can and skip the metro. I canât imagine anyone hating DC, I think youâll find a way to like it.
Moved here from NYC. Like it a lot but always hate when people in DC are like âwe have this like NYCâ. No you donât, itâs not nyc but I still like it.
Lol I feel like I hear more people from NYC saying 'OMG but it's not New York!!!' than the other way around.
Itâs sooo clean compared to NYC! I always notice that when I come back from a trip to NY.
12 years here since college and love it. Food scene has exploded over the last 5 or so years
Thanks for the responses! Iâve been to DC a few times before and each time I could imagine myself living there. It is expensive, but also a really cool, quaint city
I live in the dallas area and itâs great here, but Iâm just seeking a change
Iâm about to make the move to DC from Texas in a few months!
You guys are gonna have so much fun in DC !!
Great city. No need to own a car. So many free recreation options. Lots of trees and natural beauty. Increasingly great food scene. Always great speakers, book events, etc sponsored by some org in the city. Great flight options between DCA, BWI, and IAD.
Drivable distance to many natural beauty spots if youâre into that (Shenandoah National Park, harpers ferry and snowshoe in WV, Maryland/ Virginia beaches.
This is the key to why I moved here. Hiking and even great fishing right nearby. Wineries and mountains and water. Solid trails.
The city is solid and has a lot of great ethnic food that can blow your mind, but I need to be able to get outdoors and DC is a great city to allow that... especially compared to many east coast options
Incredible place. Fun night life when youâre young, great surrounding suburban areas to settle down with access to great public schools. Traffic sucks and the sports teams are disappointing (aside from the Stanley cup champion capitals of course) but all in all itâs a great city/region to live and put roots down
Thanks for the comment! Whatâs the nightlife like in DC?
