Hi. I came from industry and might be able to give some perspective. Every person from my former industry employer who was downsized over the years that I know personally went through a hard period right after but ultimately was glad it happened in the long run. Might not be everyone but the folks I k ow report that. 🤷♀️ sounds crazy though
You are doing them a favor. They might not see it initially, but you are freeing them from mind numbing work from which they are too afraid to jump from. The initial pain will be there for sure but it is a blessing in the long run
Running with too much fat can put the whole company’s jobs at risk. Strategic cost reduction is a periodic necessity to stay healthy.
Agree with A1. It’s like cutting off a diseased branch form a tree. You save the whole thing in the end. So it’s basically lose some or lose all in some situations. There are ways to make it less painful like regularly trimming under-performers or taking volunteers & planning for attrition.

Normally all these places are toxic and have a long running saga of multiple layoffs because their product is reaching a maturity. They have usually sucked the revenue growth out of it. I’ve been in these situations myself and ultimately you have to make a decision and go - or stay and be subject to some pain if laid off. I’ve seen really good people laid off because their pay is too high but at the moment all is good and we’re surfing the wave
