I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?
I really think that the insurance policy given by mediassist is way more expensive for parental insurance, means who will pay for 50k+ premium and that too for large copay, I guess the leadership team should intervene here....Parental insurance is really important for any employee and most of the time is only needed.
Recently I used parental insurance and found that the insurance company only paid for 50% of the total bill.

It all depends on their client mix and deliverable due dates. I’ve had years where I’ve been able to take a short vacation (Thursday to Sunday) and other years where I wasn’t able to take off.
Good for them for taking PTO. I don’t see this as politics or favoritism. I don’t know the managers’ situation, but remember that this tax year has been longer and tougher than past tax years. My team’s tax season started 2nd week of January and hasn’t stopped at all. Each person on my team is exhausted and all the staff and seniors were contemplating quitting, so we started doing a rotation of a week off last month where the person just rolled over their hours.
Also, I hope that you seeing managers take PTO during busy season shows you that it is important to take care of yourself, even in busy season. My manager who quit recently used to take a vacation each quarter. He let the teams know in advance, so we could work around it, but it gave me the courage and confidence to know that if I had a trip or needed time off, the firm was supportive.
I hope you’ll learn what I’ve learned from this pandemic - jobs come and go, but your health and the relationships you have are for a lifetime. You are the only person who will speak up for yourself, so do exactly that to take care of yourself.
Hahahahahah
Understand it’s human nature but this type of monitoring causes so much unnecessary stress in public accounting and what causes people not to take as much PTO as they should.
Unless you know their specific situation, it’s really hard to judge. You said they are a couple - it easily could be attending a wedding, funeral, or completely personal.
If two direct managers are out and you have a lack of support from other managers or partners above them, sure I understand the frustration but otherwise who cares. They maybe worked more hours before, were burnt out and woulda quit otherwise, maybe stuff isn’t to their review yet etc.
Unless you’re specifically involved and for sure know their situation it’s better to refrain from judging. We put ourselves into bad situations comparing ourselves to other people’s
How dare they take PTO
I would say: mind your business and that will take stress off of your back.
Maybe they don’t have many 10/15 clients, or they’ve been working hard all year and their work is done?
Okay but managers don’t prepare returns ... so shortly after a deadline they may not have much work? Is that a possibility?
Is the timing of these managers a PTO negatively affecting you? Is there a bottleneck of returns not being reviewed because they’re out? Are you unable to do your job without them? If not then stop speculating and creating an issue that isn’t there.
Sorry your post sounds note of a jealously post rather than a communication post. Is there something complex on these engagements that u can’t handle or need assistance with? While letting u know they are pto would be nice it isn’t required. The partner should be easily filling in, so what’s the issue here?
1 manager on PTO, sure. But 2 in the middle of 10/15? I don't think that'll ever happen unless they aren't 10/15 driven and have enough support otherwise for the tax dept. I'm only a staff so who knows what management thinks.
We all have 9/15, 9/30, & 10/15 clients - firm isn’t big enough for us to specialize.
Why would you worry about this or care? MYOB
Just leave all your questions open until they get back. It’s not your job to do their job when they are on PTO. I would not stress out about it. If you need a senior manager or partner to step in if something comes up with the client, do that otherwise just leave everything open until the manager is back. Don’t stress over what you cannot change
Sorry to be blunt, but agree with the others who are telling you to mind your own business.
If this is a workload issue it’s up to the partner/MD to decline their vacation request- not a peer or in your case a subordinate. The fact they are dating doesn’t change the answer.
Also I should note that the two managers are dating.
Are you jealous or something?
Could they have an out of town wedding or something similar? Them dating would actually make something like this make more sense and you can’t control when family/friends get married/pass away/etc.
All managers in groups like Japanese service and others have 3/31 year end and their tax busy season starts on oct 15 and goes on till 1/15
I guess you didnt experience what real favoritism is..
