Does anyone else find it frustrating when co-workers find out that you’re good at Excel, they feel the need to ask you how to do EVERYTHING, how to data sort, how to use basic functions and try to pawn off work to you because “your proficient in Excel so you’ll get the job done faster??”
I didn’t mind helping at first, I’ve started telling them to start googling it or saying “I’m not sure how to use SUMIF 🙃”

I always jargon them, but if they truly want to learn... That's a different story

like

I find this to be an ironic question. It’s hard to be a teacher, but harder when the people don’t want to put the time and effort into learning. You, my friend, are I’m the wrong job. Your working genius is an inventor. Google it. Start setting up processes and detailing out how to do things (procedures) for other people. Find ppl who like to follow step by step directions and give them the tasks you write out. I would bet you would find joy in this set up more so than whatever you are currently doing.

UPS 1 do an index match instead and they will never bother you again 😂, it will destroy their will and I have done this multiple times

All the time and yes I do they work but they take the credit

Yea and the fact that if they would take 30 seconds to Google it… I could focus on my job

This was the case back in the day. But I think these days being highly proficient at excel is the price of entry.

Im real quick to send them YouTube videos. Instead of asking me all the time, why you don’t just learn it and implement them?

like

No. That’s OpSec. Don’t email them Youtube links on a work computer.

like

Yes…I’m all about being a team player but it comes to a point like you constantly helping them I would refer them to an excel tutorial website

like

Teach them but don’t do it for them

YES! It doesn’t help that the boss is like this too 😭

I always worked around folks who could out do me in Excel so didn't get the questions...

But PPT... Oh yea... I couldn't stop the questions from coming 😢

How do you make defined name ranges stay the same when the source is changed in power query? I’ve been really struggling.

I have a model with many defined name ranges in it that are referenced throughout. Each named range is set to be 250 rows long that way it works as long as the data set has less than 250 responses. However, when I switch the data source in PQ, it inexplicably shortens all my named ranges by around 4-6 rows (for example, one that was $B$3:$B$252 becomes $B$3:$B$246). Help?

Been in consulting for over a year and wondering what other formulas other than index/match and vmatch is useful.

I have an idea- unsure about the execution...

I have an Excel worksheet which has a table of items, i.e., a stock count of items available.

Is there a way to link this table to Microsoft forms/sharepoint whereby someone can request an 'x' amount of stock from this summary table and whatever the requestor asks for, once approved, is automatically deducted from the table of figures and the corresponding items

I appreciate that there is a lot of automation in the above. Would welcome any advice

If I want to trace a particular formula in a sheet which has reference to multiple cells from multiple sheet how do I do it using keyboard. I use the trace precedent option (Alt + m + p) it shows arrows double clicking which shows the links to all the cells in different workbook from which the formula is constructed. Is there a keyboard shortcut for the same.

Pressing f5 or ctrl + g does not open the same "go to" dialogue box which opens on double clicking those arrows.

Thanks
