Yup. I had a CTA regularly ask me for tech advice in my last role. Conversely, I’ve worked with someone who had no certs who probably could pass the CTA board.
Certifications are a good indicator, but not an end-all and be-all.
Luckily I haven’t encountered too many braggarts.

I don’t put a lot of stock in having a ton of certs. I’ve seen people with 14 certs that are clueless and won’t listen to anyone about what actually needs to be done. Having them is a good indication of proficiency, sure, but all things equal I see 3 certs the same way I see 14.

Do they "have trouble staying" or are they climbing the ladder to better roles? Or giving up on promises made at time of hire that weren't fulfilled? I've seen it both ways, just something to consider.
Have trouble staying. Not much advancement from what I can see.
Always good to look at the number of projects someone has been involved with and ask them to share outcomes. Their certs may have helped with the knowledge required, but don’t ensure success.

And yes, it is annoying to see people position certs as the metric for skill. I like to see a mixture of certs, experience, and networking/social media presence (LinkedIn and Trailblazer Community). Too much of one vs another is indicative of significant gaps in knowledge or adaptability.

It drives me crazy when people constantly post certs to LinkedIn. Like, cool, you are a Copado Admin- that’s an open book exam- am I supposed to be impressed? 😁
Frankly, your comments in this thread make you sound quite difficult to work with
I can’t pass advanced admin to save my life and being measured against that stick is an injustice to what I bring to the table as an SE.
Wasnt meant to be derogatory. I meant SF4 should consider it if they really are good at administering as sometimes the questions on these exams are intentionally tricky and meant to misled.
It's annoying but at the same time I do it because it has helped my career. I have 13 certs.
If you have certs and can’t answer basic questions covered by the exam - you are doing yourself and others a disservice. You are either a liar or a cheater. Neither is needed or acceptable on any project. Others will pick up quickly on your incompetence and they won’t want to work with you.
