Is there any particular conference room that is commonly empty? If not, sometimes I just ask the receptionist or whoever manages conference room scheduling if s/he knows of any possible spaces for prayer
This doesn’t always work, but I️ try to ask the receptionist or the HR help desk/hoteling at the client’s for any Prayer/Medication/Quiet room. It’s a hit or miss but worth it as I’ve found prayer spaces more often than expected. In case you’re working for a client out of the EY office- there should be a room designated to that too. What office are you based out of? In the Times Square office 12th floor, there’s actually a space dedicated to prayers. It’s called the ‘Quiet Room’ or something. There are 2 such rooms; I️ pray there quite often.
Most modern offices also have nursing rooms that double as wellness/prayer rooms
On a new client, I usually do a quick tour of the floor I’m on (other floors as needed) to identify potential spaces and when it’s time to pray, I look for a room that’s empty that I can squat in. If the client site is not that big, I’ll ask some form of an EA or help desk who have even put me in peoples offices to pray. If I have access to booking rooms, I’ll book a room. Some clients have meditation rooms. I’ve used team conference rooms and empty cubes and if it comes to it, I’ll pray in any corner that’s not busy and has some space. Generally speaking, empty conference rooms are plentiful and when I squat, I try to be mindful to go pray when I think there won’t be a meeting walking in on me (for ex- I’ll go to check for a room about 7-10 min after meeting start times which are typically at :00 or :30)
Although when I travel, I do combine prayers so I’ll step out once for Duhr/Asr and then pray Maghreb/Isha at hotel. When it’s not DST, it’s easier to wait until after 5pm to pray Duhr/Asr since clients usually leave at that time and conference rooms are empty with no potential meetings happening at that time. But nowadays Maghreb is at 4:30pm, so that’s not possible.
I’ve never done this before at a client (but have in other spaces), but you could probably also ask someone from facilities/maintenance/housekeeping if they know a space or can open a space for you.
Being a female, I have always been shy to pray at work ...wish I could change that!
Ive had this same problem, after switching to a client with no meditation rooms. I swear my iman went down, cause my prayer became so inconsistent and i always felt guilty when i would be praying late. I got over it though, and started praying in this closet now.
I think you gotta address it day one. Otherwise it looks weird to both your managers and clients.
Honestly, I just make up the namaz later if that’s the case. Especially if traveling .
