Did you ever sell lemonade as a kid out here in Austin? My young ones want to make some money, and I thought about helping them with a lemonade stand like my folks used to but things aren't like how they used to be back in the day.

Does anybody get major anxiety before joining a meeting? Idk if it’s social anxiety or because I’m a month in at a new job and not fully ramped up but I’m at the point where I’m trying to dodge meetings if possible. I feel like a loser.
Hi. I will be shifting to Bangalore in June. I have never been to Bangalore ever. This will be my first time. Can anyone help me with how to get a LPG gas connection in a rented apartment for people belonging to other states.
How do so many people in this bowl seem to have mega fund offers?? I thought the only mega funds that take consultants were advent Bain cap and permira - all of which have only hired 2-4 associates in the past year since there has been no on cycle.

Project keeps being pushed back a week at a time and I'm approaching a month on the bench. Is there anything I can do for my utilization? I still have pre-engagement work every day, no other project.
Is it worth taking a job with Twitter? I have an offer from Twitter but I’m currently at a large company that gave a counter which included a management role. Which is more valuable the “tech” experience gained at Twitter, higher pay, or management experience?
What does your morning routine look like when you arrive at school? Are you an early bird or rushing in just in time?
What are the risks of the ETH 2.0 project in the summer?
So far, everyone has been treating the summer as when ETH skyrockets but no mention of risk the value going down-- anything you'd be worried about, other than ETH 2.0 generally not being implemented well?

Okay - I know some people like coming into the office 5 days a week and that is really terrific you enjoy that, and that working on-site is such a critical component of your happiness. Most of us don’t want to be here. When you brag about being here late, or brag about coming in every day, no one thinks you’re working harder than the rest of us, or that you’re more valuable than anyone else. Keep doing what you do, just keep it to yourself and mind your own anti-work-from-home business, Kthxbye.
Help me think through this decision please.
Gov attorney, 8 years out of law school and will make over $100k for the first time this year. Gov benefits are great and WLB is amazing (I have a wife and child). We are less than 2 hours from all of our collective family now. I have an offer with a small firm I am highly interested in. $165k base + bonus for only 1800 billable hours, but it is 8+ hours from our families. $90k in student loan debt left. Am I wrong for wanting to take the money?
Looks like Bryan Cave is gonna open up another huge wave of layoffs. I wonder what firms are next?
Is it ever worth responding to a recruiter email to interview with another firm when you’re content with where you are? I honestly have no real desire to lateral (I like my firm, like my bosses, like my practice areas), but I’m in midlaw and often get biglaw recruiting emails relevant to my specialty that pay market that leave me curious. Is it worth entertaining a call or a waste of everyone’s time?
For those who do med mal - is it similar or worse than ID? Do the cases take a toll or does it feel good to defend doctors who are overworked and trying? Just trying to figure out if I should apply for a med mail position with a $15,000 raise which would be a lot for me. However, I don’t really enjoy ID and litigation so I feel like it would be more of the same but more gruesome cases…
Anyone ever hated their area of practice so much you don’t care if you win or not? Of course I still defend my client to the best of my ability.
Anyone have a nice standard email they use to ask opposing counsel if they’d be open to mediation? I always worry I’m being too short or long-winded. Can’t seem to find a happy medium.
I was part of the tech layoffs over the past couple of weeks. I have an opportunity to go back in house or back to a law firm. Both are great opportunities and comparable comp. Pro of law firm - stability (less likely to be laid off). Pro of in house - no billable hours. Should I ride out the recession at a law firm until things settle down or take the risk and go back to in house?
Good morning - tips on dealing with the “know it all client.” I represent an entity and one individual thinks they understand all legal issues simply because of news articles or friends stories. I try to redirect conversation by focusing on unique facts at issue but other techniques would be helpful.
I am conflicted. I had an assignment due recently and I am not pleased with my work. I am a person that takes pride in what I submit to my supervising partner (even though 95% of the time he changes everything—when I know it was great to begin with) With this assignment I was not there at the start of it: litigation commence in 2013 and I got hired last year and was put on the assignment in March of this year. In addition, my boss never gives me a full picture of what he wants and long story…
Looking at a lateral move to a life sciences group from tech trans. Will this limit high paying in-house opportunities later? Will tech companies hire someone from a life sciences licensing group? If not, is there an equivalent to tech jobs in the life sciences industry?
Attorneys involved in deciding who to set up an interview with, what reasons do you look for among their application materials to call them back, and what reasons do you look for to toss their application in the trash? All points appreciated, both objective and subjective.
I was being super rushed on an assignment by the client. Everyone on the deal teams knows it but I made some very sloppy mistakes that are obvious I just didn’t have time to read over it. What to do now besides fix them and move on
Interviewed with a firm yesterday. I’m a second year, practicing primarily in family/criminal. They asked me if I would be willing to take a lower salary to start because i have no experience in the area they practice (education, employment, etc). Not sure how to feel about being asked to basically take a clerk position for an indefinite period. Is this common?
Has anyone been in a position where they have been working on a case drafting all the pleadings, motions, and communicating with OC, but once your supervisor sees how much youve racked up in fees, tries to settle it before you can, so they can collect the commission/fees on it, instead of you. I’m incredibly annoyed because I’ve been practicing the same area of law for 4 years and my supervisor has been practicing for 8, but the previous 7 were in crim law. Her advice is usually unneeded/wrong
Has it been difficult getting approved for a mortgage with law school loans? My partner and I are both in Biglaw, but graduated in 2020 during the loan interest freeze and haven’t started paying any of our loans. We both have credit scores of 790+ and make around $450K total. We are nervous about home buying due to each of us having $100k in student loans.
Job has become really toxic & I need to get out ASAP. I’d really rather not leave without another job...but will if I have to. Any recommendations for how to find something new fast?
How do you get billable work? Are you constantly knocking on doors & hunting it down? Or are assignments generally given to you? Do you ever have periods of being unable to find any?
Anyone else still getting emails from their old boss 6 months after leaving the job asking for info/strategies/impressions on files they worked on? I left detailed file notes on every case I worked on before I left and had multiple debriefs.
Not really a law question but social decorum.
I moved to a new city, let's say LA. I am originally from Atlanta. I always ask people I meet in the office "so are you from here?" in our introductions just to break the ice. However, I feel sometimes that I think non-white individuals have a cringe moment.
Is it inappropriate to ask this? I'm not looking to justify anything, I want to learn if I should not ask this anymore.
