Does anyone else love adult life? I remember when I was younger people would always tell me how I would miss being a kid and college life is amazing and that responsibilities suck. I love adulthood..

I don’t miss college because I was always broke. I was always too stressed about how much I would spend when I went out with friends to eat or grab a drink. I couldn’t really enjoy myself. I went days without much to eat so yeah don’t miss that.

Don’t get me wrong responsibilities do suck but I still prefer the independence. I love being able to make financial and other decisions for my self. Being a kid is overrated

I definitely miss nothing about childhood, high school or college. My family was FAR from wealthy and I started working at the age of 14 in able to afford the clothes I wanted. Worked all through college (year round) and was fortunate to have a scholarship that paid 1/2 my tuition. Between my parents and my job we were able to minimize my student loans. There was no such thing as “family vacation “ or “spring break trips” as there was no money for it. While that may sound like a drag to some people, I developed a strong work ethic, know how to manage my money wisely, and can now afford to do the things my family could not. Very grateful for all that I earned and all that I now have.

^ very true I don’t have a kid yet and I’m still in my 20s. Wonder if my opinion will change later in life.

Imagine college with current money though.

I dont miss childhood cuz mine was shitty but I miss college for the social aspect. But I’m pretty happy with adulthood too. Just wish it wasn’t so lonely 😞

like

I agree Acn2 it’s harder to make friends as an adult and it can get lonely. That’s one part of childhood or college that’s better. I went through a lonely period too but I decided to be more open and reached out to people more.

I do not have kids, mid 20s, not married. I grew up with a pretty comfortable lifestyle as a kid/adolescent. Not rich, but upper middle class, so my childhood was pretty decent. Going from that standard of living to what I have now has been an adjustment...

like

That’s interesting. So I guess it depends on the ratio of money growing up to now. I personally had a decent childhood. We were well fed and clothed and reasonably happy. But my parents fought about money all the time- family dinner, vacations and at home. My parents were also very controlling and demanding from me in terms of discipline and education. I guess it got me to where I am today but I’m def more carefree now. I felt stressed about money most of my childhood and college.

I think A3 made a point, it really depends on how your childhood is. If you grew up with good family and decent income, adulthood simply adds responsibility. When I grew up, my parents were consistently fighting, and also very controlling and cheap. I started working at 17 and have not received a dime from my parents since then (albeit they only charged me cheap rates for rent and provided food when i was home..). Worked all throughout college, every summer vacation, spring break, winter break, etc. There were days where I would live off of the free candy at work and free pizza at school, and starve otherwise cause I needed to save to pay tuition. It was super liberating when I started working, could live on my own without constant arguing with my parents, go on vacations, and literally go to the supermarket without worrying about buying the cheapest food. I did learn how to become independent and frugal, but I also feel like I missed out on a lot of experiences (studying abroad, social life in college, pick classes based on interest instead of what would get me a job). I feel even if I have kids in the future, the income we make would still make it reasonably manageable compared to the average american household income of 50+k...

I don’t miss childhood but I do miss college... good thing I’m moving back to my college town soon

100% on the same page as this post. And never going to have kids, so everything is looking pretty stable.

And frankly I had a shitty childhood, you couldn't pay me to want to be a child again.

I honestly think the “you’ll miss being a kid” thing is a something adults just say to kids. Most people probably have a better life as an adult.

like

OP yeah this job is hard for making even coworker friends due to the nature of it. Then people moved away for jobs and stuff or friends cant keep up financially. Dont even get me started on dating. Yeah I’m hoping that element of my adulthood improves but I’m loving everything else

That’s awesome D1!! I think it’s inspirational to see stories like yours and ACN1 who have come a long way and have over come their difficulties and instead find motivation to do better!

I am with you, OP! I don’t have kids so that might change...I really enjoy the independence (despite now I have more responsibilities) and feel empowered as a human being

Acn2 it will get better! I really can relate to what you’re saying. I was in the same place as you up until a few years ago and honestly it affected my self esteem because I was so used to having a lot of friends. You just have to start meeting more people and you will eventually find people you connect with. Making friends as an adult is really hard especially when you’re surrounded by people that have their own little groups which are hard to break into.

Though I’ve disclosed my epilepsy to a few in my firm, I don’t think it’s been recorded anywhere and I’ve always had a hard time telling people what should be done if I have a seizure that goes beyond, “please don’t call 911 unless it lasts more than 10 min.” As we go back to work, I will be sharing an office with another senior. I feel like it would be courteous to disclose the info to her in case something happens. Any tips, tricks, or specific advice? My seizures are ALWAYS grand mal.

60M people need to be vaccinated. Offering them $1000 each would cost this country $60B. Realistically, you can get to half of that population — $30B. One booster shot for 250M people at 80% uptake — $200B. For $30B - $230B, we can end the pandemic in the USA. Worth it? Edited: add in $5M for an MBB to do this math and put it in a PPT for you. And $50M for a big 4 firm to implement, botch, reimplement.
