Does anyone else struggle with family that is resentful of your financial resources? I grew up middle class and my mom, brother and Sister-in-law frequently make passive aggressive comments. I travel frequently but otherwise live a very unflaunty lifestyle (I.e., I don’t own a car, rent a two-bedroom apartment). Get comments about my eating out at restaurants, travel, etc. I don’t even talk about/share those things with family, unless asked.

Yes, but for me I wouldn’t necessarily deem it resentful as much as family members regretting their life decisions/circumstances and projecting that regret through slick comments. We all want to live well and sometimes it’s hard seeing someone from the same circumstances as you doing better than you. Not saying that is right but trying to give you another perspective that will lead you to be empathetic for them and not take it personally.

I try to avoid this with my family by never discussing dollar amounts and stressing the resourcefulness they value and praising some of their "weather" areas. I make more than 4 times my family members but like you live in a 2 bedroom apt. So I praise their backyards and counter space. I also "brag" when i get something crazy cheap or free cycled. This makes bonding topics because they love a good deal can still avoid direct numbers too by saying "75% off" etc. I also encourage them to not spend money on my kids since "we don't have the space" and other things that i know would be hard on them.

His mother apparently was very cold/rude to his ex-gf (I found this out bc I asked) and his sister is very cold and has a very judgmental attitude about women that don’t wanna be a wife & have kids (just like her.) I wanna avoid holidays at their place - any advice?

Hello Fishes,

I have got my L2 Dependent Visa stamped for the US through the Wife's organization and she has booked the tickets for the both of us in the next weekend. I am currently unallocated in TCS and seeking projects in the same US location as my Wife. Can I travel to the US just like that and then continue my search within TCS from there or do I need any approvals to even fly in the first place?

I am worried because of the time crunch and will be glad to hear some points on this.

Hello People,
Looking for advice based on experience. Currently living with in-laws that have come to support us with our first baby. My in-laws and I have had a rocky start to our relationship due to ours being an inter-religion marriage. Many things have been said that I’m neither able to forgive nor forget. I have a very kind husband who understands my sentiments but wants to try to have a cordial relationship with them now for the sake of our baby (and baby’s relationship with grandparents)

My company is looking for a way to coordinate travel plans so that one person isn't arriving at one of our international offices one week and then someone else goes to the same office the following week.
Interested to hear how others coordinate travel in this way that would allow people to plan their trips together. Do you use any software, app, shared document?

I am ideally looking for someone to rent it out for the entire week for about 3K total. Message me for more information!

My partner of 5 years ended our relationship last night. I’m shattered and feel absolutely sick, and I know the healing isn’t going to be easy. We were on the verge of an engagement and I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him.

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

Has anyone else gone back to relying more on public transportation with the surging Uber / Lyft prices. I haven’t taken buses and trains much since I’ve graduated but now it just feels like I’m throwing money out the window by not making the switch back.

new to investing. have done some research - reading blogs and a few books on investing. Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

Already have 20% down, but considering putting less. All closing fees are also covered. Is this a good idea or should just wait?
