you described my feelings exactly
I wake up with anxiety every morning because I haven't had any work to do for the past two months...
I think there's a difference between burnt out an overwhelmed. You can still be burnt out with not a whole lot of task on hand. It's the emotional state that the desire to go on not being there.
This is 100% happening to me, can’t sleep because the anxiety and feeling like I’m failing or forgetting something keeps me up at night. Certainly a sign of stress and I’m taking two days off after the holiday to get some time to refresh. I suggest this for you as well, the body can’t sustain long periods of stress and remain healthy
Yes I always think I’m forgetting something or that a manager is expecting work from me
Yeah. That’s called a panic attack. I’ve had them BAD before. I highly recommend talking to a professional. This will likely become debilitating if you don’t resolve it (speaking from experience).
I’ve had some bad bouts of work-induced dread and anxiety, and if you don’t do something about it, you could very well end up falling into a pretty dark burnout/depression where you become numb to the ups and downs in life - at least that’s what happened to me.
It’s a weird time, but I encourage you to find ways to talk to a therapist. It’s easier to put it off than to actively take steps to seek help, but it really changed my life for the better.
It also helps if you can narrow down and list out exactly what is driving the dread and anxiety with specificity. Are you behind on deadlines? Feel like you have to much on your plate? Dread dealing with your boss or other individuals? Hate doing the type of work you’re given? Worry that you’re going to disappoint others? Identifying your stressors is a good first step in taking the more abstract mess of emotions inside your head and turning them into more concrete things you can work on dealing with.
You can also try to list out what you enjoy about your job, or what makes you happy in your life right now. If that’s a much shorter list, you’ve shown yourself that your life is out of balance, and restoring balance will be the key to staving off burnout.
I’m a Senior Manager, and have struggled with this at various times over the course of my career, including recently during work from home. My advice would be to create consistent touch points with your manager, senior, client contact etc. The longer you wait, the more that fear and the lies that are going to build. If your supervisor isn’t toxic or completely stressed, I’d expect you’d start feeling relief within minutes of being on the phone with with them. This is all the more important during work from home. We all need grace upon grace for each other right now. Everyone has been impacted or life disrupted and is feeling the stress of this.
You sound like me. I am burnt out as well. This is a good time if ever to talk with a therapist. It will help with some clarification about life in general and if your current job might need some changes so you don't feel that way all the time.
It sounds like fear of the unknown? Stop watching the news? That can bother me sometimes because I feel so bad about the world and all the news does is repeat it. Take care of yourself!!!
I am going through the same thing. You are not alone. Wishing you all the best to get through this!
