Does anyone else wish their school had been more up-to-date on STEM when they were a kid? I went to college with some kids who had been practicing and studying code since middle school. I learned about it from the internet in high school enough that I wanted to go to college for it, but I still feel like I started behind everyone else regardless of gender.

Coming from Manhattan, the difference in diversity is something that stands out to me a lot. I find here, that if I match or go on a date with someone that’s non-Asian, invariably I find that they’re into anime, K-pop, Asian culture etc.

I feel like my mum only ever looks for me when she wants money. Once i send it’s all good for her. What is the homelessness situation like in Nashville? Currently live in Seattle and things are out of control here. Everything's too expensive, and the city doesn't have enough shelters for everyone. It's a mess. Hoping to move somewhere calmer where the city gives a f*ck about it's people. Mother in law lives in Nashville and she'd love to be closer to the grandkids, but rampant homelessness is a deal breaker for me.

Question for moms past the young toddler phase - at what age did you find your child could safely & independently play/entertain themselves for 30-60 minutes? My just-turned 2 y.o. can play fairly well independently for 5-10 minutes and of course needs to be very closely supervised for safety (he loves to climb).

I’m about to have a baby and it’s hit me that we will have family over to visit and the baby will still need to eat. How did you handle nursing around family? I was raised in China and now I realize a lot of things I’ve been taught growing up is so f***ed up - 1) a college entrance exam will make or break your life 2) girls need to be as skinny as a stick (and other unreasonable beauty standards... major news constantly makes fun of female celebrities’ tiniest flaw) 3) instead of talking directly we’re suppose to assume what each other mean... among other things. We had an important project stakeholders meeting for which I prepared a presentation, delivered the presentation and answered some difficult questions in the Q&A. I ensured a few of the stakeholders that I'd follow up with some interesting links.
I prepared an email to follow up which was a collation of links, white papers in attachment etc which took the morning to put together. My colleague, who is a male who had initially set up the meeting and chaired it was to send the minutes after. (1)

Is it a red flag as a candidate to ask if a company offers maternity leave? I was recently laid off, so I wasn't expecting to lose my job. We're planning on trying for a baby in the next year or so, so it's really important to me that my next job offers paid maternity leave.

The issue is that it's so rarely advertised on company web sites, but ultimately better maternity leave would sway my decision for a job. Is there a way to ask this tactfully? Or without raising red flags?

Hi all! I’m an engineer working in the global health space and I’m finding it’s a small, small pool. I also just found out that a new hire (male, also an engineer) is the reason I got a raise after ~5 years of stagnancy. I love my job, but it’s time to move on. Anyone who’s worked in nonprofit spaces - did you stay? Did you switch to consulting/government/etc or go corporate? I’ve been applying without much response, and I’m debating whether a PMP very or masters is going to be necessary.

Mom's in this bowl, or anyone, do you feel like the place where you work discourages or penalizes women for getting pregnant or wanting to have children? I realized recently that most if not all of the women I work with don't have kids or have expressed that they don't plan to, and I'm wondering if that's intentional.

As proud as my family is of my career and accomplishments, I think my mother would honestly be happier or just as happy if I had no degree, a husband, and several children (I'm 29). She doesn't expressly say it but the "don't you get lonely?" comments speak for themselves.

I'm currently looking for a new job, and it's looking like I'm going to start around beginning of December. I also get married in March, and I'm going to take my fiancé's last name. I was wondering if I should ask HR if I could start out using my married name. I'm worried that people will just start to learn who I am about 3-4 months in only for my name to change! It could potentially be confusing.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Or am I just overthinking it?

Back story I started new job at a pretty big corporation but when they said there's no organization they were not exaggerating. currently I need to create plans/trackers for multiple projects/programs, teach teams how to use etc...
