I've worked for an international company now for almost 8 years. I love it and I hate it. I love learning the other cultures and combination styles but hate that whenever I can't sleep there is always someone awake who needs something. Hang in there. I have loved the experience but still working to set boundaries on after hours meetings and calls.
Yes, and right now the schedule works very well for my WLB. I work early mornings to early afternoon as most of my team/boss is in Europe or Asia. Be flexible, but also set boundaries, so you don’t burn out from working long hours.
Coach
I have 5 people who report to me in other countries & several are more junior. I’ve had to up my communication & documentation game big time. We’ve gotten into a good rhythm of them sharing work for review when they sign off, I review & make comments and then they fix while I’m off. We then sync during our overlap and discuss if needed. It works well if we can be proactive and are working ahead as there are very few hours where no one is working on the project. But if there is a fire to put out, that tends to fall to me/the onshore team.
See if you can reset the working cadence before jumping ship. When it works, it pretty great.
