I’m confused
Move from FAANG to consulting rather than the other way around
Oh I didn’t mean to imply that I made the move. Just clarifying OP’s post. The only time I worked industry was during school.
Most people use consulting as a means to an end, so in that sense yeah FAANG is better.
If you're chasing pristeige, like golden handcuffs, or actually want to be partner, then maybe not.
Had both multiple FAANG and MBB offers post b-school. Chose bcg, much better financially compared to my FAANG friends.
Good question OP. Based on what I have heard from friends in terms of their hours, I would say Amazon and Apple are lesser $/hour compared to bcg.
But google would be better.
I left a FAANG internal consulting role for a strategy consulting position
Interested to hear your thoughts as well!
FAANG progression is slower, so it makes sense to do MBB >> FAANG since without MBB you would take much longer to get the same position in FAANG.
Regarding FAANG >> MBB, financially it might make sense in the long term if you make partner, but definitely not in the short term because I’ve seen people with like 10+ YOE in tech being placed into a PL role, which takes an average BCGer 4 years to get to from entry level.
That being said, I was counting overall career financial returns, but if you’re already in FAANG for a couple of years and think you will make partner I still think it makes sense.
