Does anyone ever feel like the need a mentor even though they have years of experience already?
I’ve been working for 25 years of my life, 18 of which are in the same industry but I just don’t feel like I’m going anywhere. I get great reviews, told I’m a rockstar, am the one everybody goes to with questions but I’ve never reached above a plain manager position. I burn myself out and get nothing but more work and stress. Feeling glum today.

Everyone should have a mentor no matter how much experience they have. Apply for a job that's a level above where you're at and you'll be able to make that leap

How are you at networking? It does matter a great deal unfortunately, also do you come across confident?

I’ve been gifting clarity sessions to individuals to identify what’s holding them back from leveling up. I’d be happy to send you a link if this is at all of interest to you. I personally became a director at age 32, was elected a principal partner at age 47.

Having mentors is always helpful as they can give you another perspective that your peers or supervisors cannot. What's critical to any new opportunities is having a sponsor. Sponsors are the ones who will hear of an issue or challenge and say "I know someone who can fix that" and is willing to recommend you. They're tougher to develop but think about the last few projects you've done or who said to go to you for an issue. They are your sponsor, reach out, say thanks, and ask if there is anything else in the horizon that you can do. Be a fearless cheerleader for yourself- you're in charge of your career!

As vp1 said, one should always have a mentor. After a certain point, pull factors can matter more than push. In other words, to make a leap to the next level it will usually take someone pulling you up / vouching for you.

The network a mentor can bring is priceless. However you need to pick the right one. Easier said than done

You posted the post I was not brave enough to post myself. I wrote and rewrote it so many times. Well done for making positive steps to change things and nudge them in the right direction for you. Mentoring is one of the proactive actions you can take to future proof your career. I’d encourage you to seek out 1-2 mentors that can bring different aspects to your life. One can be from the industry you work in and the other can be about personal growth. Personally speaking, for far too long I’ve coasted in my career, decent pay and have always opted to stay for flexible working arrangements rather than personal growth. But I haven’t pursued personal growth opportunities outside work because juggling work, family and some pretty full on sporting commitments by my daughter is exhausting. And now, I feel stuck even when I am ready to make a change. So don’t procrastinate and do it! At least you’ll be trying. Good luck!

Context:

I recently accepted a position at the company and have been working as a temp for the past 3 months. I really enjoy the people I work with and the company seems to really support its employees, however it is in a field that doesnt exactly align with what I would like to be doing. And unfortunately the compensation package is also lacking.

2) I have the option to internally transfer in Amazon to a product/program manager role or AWS in a start-up Manager role - which of these would be best to maximise my chances of eventually getting into VC?
