Does anyone ever just interview for the sake of interviewing, without the intention of taking the offer?

To stay in touch with the market and your value, To practice and get better at interviewing, To meet new people and network?

It definitely feel wrong bc you’re wasting people’s time, but don’t companies waste our times too? I feel like it may be an underrated tool for personal development. Thoughts?

All the time. It's called networking. Once you approach interviewing this way, you win.

You can always politely decline the package. People do it all the time. There is no magic to this. Helps you understand your worth. Great practice. Opens you to a wider network. You never know when you'll cross paths with people again. My current job I'm in was a result of 2 years of just casually interviewing.

100% it’s not wasting time. It’s market research which will help in the long term when you eventually want a new job. I see it as being proactive rather than reactive.

There have been a few times I've interviewed "just to see what happens." I don't make a practice of doing it.

Completely agree. You never know what is going to happen from a conversation.

Guilty

I do and that's how I understood how much I was getting underpaid.

I was mad. If I didn't have a master's program to finish on the side I would have left. Plan to leave after the masters.

I’ve accepted an offer for a great company, but have still been interviewing at a few other places to hone my skills and see what I’d be worth, even though I have no intention of taking any other offers. I think it’s just helpful to get an idea what other companies would’ve paid me (typically lower than the offer I accepted) while also growing my network.

It's great practice. When you have the one you're really interested in your answers will be super sharp.

Hi all. I have a referral question. Long story short, I waited too long to apply for a SA role. I wanted to pass my PMP first (which I did on Friday) and went to apply to the role yesterday to see that it got taken down. I do have a friend who can refer me but does she have to wait for another posting to come up before she refers me? Or can she do it with an existing posting and I’ll get an internal link that isn’t attached to a specific posting? Did I lose my chance?

My co-worker is so resentful and competitive because I was promoted over her last year which caused a demotion on her end. People in the company still go to her for things that should be for me but she rarely corrects them. I just do my job and try to not let it bother me but it does. Any suggestions?

IMO, this guy does nothing. He steals the ideas of his team members and then acts like tyrant in front of people.

I finished the recruiter, and hiring manager interviews, both went very well. The hiring manager wants to fly me to their location to “show me the site” but I haven’t heard back for almost a week.
When I let the recruiter know I had other opportunities and needed an update, they said they were finalizing getting the panel together, so it sounds like a group interview.
This is for a senior role at a rapidly growing startup, do I just need to chill?

Say you went through several interview rounds and were told you were the runner up because the successful candidate had a slight edge over you. Then you see the exact posting a week later. I'm coming to the end of a contract term and being converted to FTE.

The offer was presented to me by the hiring manager and not HR/Recruiter. To me it is a lower base salary offer than expected, so I asked for info on the total compensation package (base, benefits, bonus, stock/rsu, etc.), which I was told about when they took me on under the contract with the intention to convert.

Hiring manager sends me an email with only standard benefits, no bonus, etc. Are these red flags?

I’m in the process of interviewing for a role, and the hiring manager mentioned that the role has been vacant for one year, and they’ve been recruiting for the role since May but haven’t identified a candidate. The recruiter told me they would extend an offer to a candidate by the week of July 18th, but I met with the HM for an interview last week, and she said that there will be another request for a “final round interview sometime this month.” Should I take itas a red flag and move on?

Hey everyone! I’m just about ready to put in my 2 weeks with my current company. I’d love to work directly with this major company instead of through a consultancy. But my employment contract has some wording which makes that impossible for the next 2 years.

Problem is that I’d like to give Major Company a chance to pull strings before I hand in my notice and they get told that I resigned immediately (worst case, but I have trust issues with my firm starting pretty early on). Should I try it?
