I have my MBA and I am in a tech role.
My MBA taught me to focus more on the business than I used...as a result...my solutions are accepted more often by the client, I am able to deliver things more smoothly and overall I am able to deliver more tech projects that improve the clients business operations.
Am I the only one that is doing this in Google? No. But the other people that are doing the same consistently either have an MBA or spent at a company that is known for grooming great business leaders
T/Dr - you don't need an MBA but advanced business experience is really helpful.

To all the people that say an MBA is only about the network or that you can learn the same from a book.
You are nuts.
The MBA is about bringing a bunch of smart people together and having them create and defend their ideas.
As to the people that say an MBA is about buying a network - that is silly. You get the same network from being in consulting for a long time. Also...the MBA network is a lot more discerning about handing out referrals
I think it still helps if you're going for a managerial role. I also think that there is (thankfully) a push for people in tech to actually know something specific about tech, so those certs are still important too.
My take is that the desirable companies in tech don’t care at all about certs at all and roles that care about certs no one cares much about.
Most importantly companies care about your ability to do a job, so test for that in technical and/or case interviews.
This is what I have found too
An MBA is great for networking opps. but not so much for actualy tech related functions. I think if you're trying to get into a senior level leadership role an MBA would be better than a cert.
Personally, my friends who have gotten an MBA don't seem to be doing as well as those who've gained more work experience. I think the MBA is a great tool only if you have a solid amount of professional experience, otherwise it's a fancy degree that loses its value
