You could do STEMs projects. This summer I taught a stems class Padawans training to be Jedis. We made motorized amusement park ( jedi training camp) kids learned how to read a rule, protractor, use a campus with and without degrees on them. Each student made an amusement park ride. Swings dragon roller coaster ferris wheels. Of course there was basic math facts involved no variable equations as it was 4th grade class. Lots of fun and everything moved. We even played with lights and batteries so it could light up. They had no idea they were doing school math.

Where did you find the curriculum for the Padawan training?

Greg tang math!! Might not go up to 7th but it’s a fantastic resource!! SO much stuff on there! Games, professional development, live classes to zoom in on for students, worksheets (good worksheets too), hands on strategies, online manipulative, probably more too! My school district hasn’t purchased the paid parts but we’re leaning in that direction for next year and I’m so excited!!

I have a question, if anyone could share what they have in their district.
I started with 8 students, now just past semester and I am up to 15 in person students and 1 virtual. I teach w/ 2 phenomenal paras! The para support comes in the gen ed class. 1 para has 2nd gr & 4 students; 3 behavior w/ 2 reading spt & 4th gr now has 6 very high need! I have 3 times a day where I am alone working 3 different instructions. Does anyone else have this. I have grades 2-5 and no concern from admin!

Any suggestions for getting kids to do homework? Sped Math 6th grade high need area - I cannot get these kids to turn in hw. Anyone agree with the idea of allowing class time for HW? I am at a loss

Question: If SPED students are receiving their Resource Minutes AFTER the regular school hours from their peers (8:30-10:30) is that Legal? They are not being pulled from the general Ed classes, but participating in an extended day. Should minutes be calculated based on a normal school day or the 2 hours they are in class?

Help! I'm a Sped teacher (ELA inclusion) that comes home to a High Functioning Autistic 9 yr old with ADHD and a slew of sensory issues that has sworn off soap 🤢. I've made visual check list for bathroom processes, bought timers, tried different bars and body washeds with net sponges, towels and even invested in a pricey showerhead with multiple settings. His set of needs are out of my wheel house. I need suggestions before I just pack up and move out *sarcasm but at the end of my rope*.

This post came up in another group I'm in. Do you think language such as "special education" is ableist? Does it sound better to say "inclusive education"? Does the language used really matter?
