Does anyone have a financial advisor they truly, truly trust to educate and help invest? I’m a young attorney of color looking for an exit opportunity but I have no meaningful investments. I have no idea how money works 😞

The Her Money podcast with Jean Chatzky is exceptional. Many episodes talk about investing basics but many episodes talk about money and your emotions, and women's empowerment issues related to money (like how to negotiate a raise, etc). Cannot recommend it more highly.

No matter what direction you go, make sure they're a fiduciary. They have to tell you if you ask, and it's major fraud for a no -fiduciary to represent that they are when they're not. So it's a good way to separate the salesmen from the advisors who have your best interest in mind.

Not a financial advisor, but I highly recommend watching the YouTube channel Investing with Rose. She’s a POC and I binged her videos during 2020 to learn everything I possibly could about how many money and investing worked. Her videos are beginner friendly and info-packed.

Awesome recommendation, thank you. My ultimate goal is to know enough to make informed decisions so I will definitely check this out.

I know it’s hard to find the time when you are a junior attorney but, read (or listen to on audiobook) the Bogleheads guide to investing. You will always be your best financial advisor!

do you want a financial advisor (who tells you how to invest money) or a financial planner (who could help you set up a plan in terms of saving money so you can move to a lower paying job and take care of other priorities)?

I think often times financial planners work in tandem with advisors, and some are able to help with investment goals. I can DM you the name of a financial planner who I think is very helpful with regards to walking you through how to think about money and who has helped me invest (though she might loop in the advisor side to help; I haven’t worked with her at her current firm)

Bitcoin

Yes. He’s late 20s and understands where I am in life. He’s so knowledgeable. He’s helped me with a budget and is in charge of my investments. He helps me think about the future but not in an intimidating way (i.e., should I start saving for my future kids education? Do I want to put money aside for my parents in case (god forbid) of a medical emergency). He also helped me get in touch with a group that refinances student loans at very low rates. I’m obsessed with him.

I love Sally Krawcheck and her investing platform, Ellevest. It has a magazine, videos and other resources that are really informative and helpful. I have a brokerage account with them that's done well. Good for you for educating/wanting to educate yourself about money.

I use Facet Wealth for my finances. They work on a flat fee basis so you don’t have to worry about them recommending things you don’t need

Do you think an MBA is only really worth the exit options immediately post mba? I just hear everyone obsessed with rankings but tbh in 10 years, outside say Harvard, they will have changed. My Alma mater undergrad was a top 20 school that has fallen for example. I chose it because it was the best in my local area but who cares given i don't live in that geographic local anymore. Other schools that I didn't even consider have risen up.

I only plan on staying in consulting for about 2 more years then off for an MBA. Would it be more worth it to take a level and pay raise at a different big4 moving to senior level rather than going to associate/analyst level at MBB? These are my two choices at the moment. I want to position myself best for post MBA jobs in industry. Salary will def be lower at MBB compared to the senior level at big4 so not sure if it’s worth the trade off in experience.

I live in a HCOL city and am still not being paid enough to save/live . I have all of the tools/ skill sets to leave consulting and go into big tech . Before going out to market myself and get a new job should I even ask D for a raise ? I’m frustrated because I’m adding a lot of value to my current engagements and I think I’d have a good business case for a raise. On a side note I see people leaving left and right here which is not a good sign!
